Learning in Year 3

We are off to a wonderful start in Term 2, and it has been fantastic to see students return with enthusiasm and readiness to learn. There is already a strong sense of curiosity and engagement in the classroom, and we are looking forward to a busy and exciting term ahead.
Literacy
We have begun our class novel The Nothing to See Here Hotel, and students are already being immersed in the rich language and magical adventure of the story. Throughout our reading, we are focusing on key comprehension strategies such as predicting, wondering, making connections, and summarising. Students are recording their thinking in their class novel journals, helping to deepen their understanding of the text. Our recent curriculum day also allowed us to extend and enrich these lessons even further. We are excited to see students continue to become part of the Nothing to See Here Hotel world as the story unfolds.
Mathematics
In Maths, we have launched into our fractions unit. Students have been exploring important vocabulary, using arrays, and building fraction walls to strengthen their understanding of parts of a whole. Alongside this, we are developing fluency in our 4 times tables through engaging games and songs, which has been a fun and energetic way to build confidence.
Integrated Unit
Last term we finished our unit on One Country Many Stories where students showcased their Dreamtime story pizza boxes It was lovely to have so many families come and visit us and see what we created.
This term, our integrated studies focus is “Australia – You’re Standing On It!” Students are exploring Australia’s states, territories, capital cities, and famous landmarks. We began by drawing what we think Australia looks like and generating thoughtful inquiry questions that will guide our research throughout the term. It has been wonderful to see students’ curiosity and prior knowledge already shining through.
ANZAC Day
As part of our learning this week, students have been exploring the meaning of ANZAC Day and why it is an important time of commemoration. We looked at the Ode and discussed its significance, and students also enjoyed making Anzac biscuits as a hands-on way to connect with history.
We are looking forward to another fantastic term of learning
