Literacy

Once

Once is a 2005 Best-Seller children's novel by Australian author Morris Gleitzman. It is about a Jewish boy named Felix who lived in Poland and is on a quest to find his book-keeper parents after he sees Nazis burning the books from a Catholic orphanage where he lived for over three years.

Students are exploring this well-known Morris Gleitzman novel. This book will feature a boy names Felix who is living in the middle of World War 2. Students will learn about the tough conditions of being a kid back in the war and the hardships people and children went through. 

They will construct an Information Report about Poland where Felix, the main character is located. They have jotted down their notes about Poland and starting to write their introduction and body paragraph 1. 

Morphology

Review week

Students will be reviewing the prefix and suffixes from the past 9 weeks.

Also our key Root words such like, tract, ject, act, rupt, struct, do, neighbour, port.

At the end of the week students will be post tested with the end of unit 1 finishing and pre test for unit 2 for next term. 

Integrated Studies

This is me!

Throughout this unit, students will explore their identity and the characteristics that make them who they are. Students will consider the influence that the media, role models, and pressure from others has on their identity. 

Students will learn about the changes associated with puberty and investigate different ways to stay healthy in mind and body. 

Students have started to create an identity self-portrait to celebrate who they are. These are looking fantastic and its interesting to see key insights of how students see themselves. These will be shared with our visitors at an Art Exhibition. 

EXPO – From Friday 18th 9:15am (last day of school for the term) This will run for a 45mins or so.

BIG IDEA STATEMENT: 

PATTERNS: Relationships can be described and generalizations made for mathematical situations that have numbers or objects that repeat in predictable ways. 

This Idea starts to introduce our Space aspect of the curriculum. Learning about prisms and how their formed, to what translate, rotate and reflect means and placing an item on a Cartesian plane to analyse how they move across the plan.

Multiplication, how multiplying can form patterns that link to our powers of 10.
