Writing - Inspired by Mallee Sky 

We have been busy bringing our Mallee Sky writing unit to a close! Students have been planning and developing their own writing pieces that take the reader through a severe weather event. They have worked on experiementing with figurative language, choosing interesting vocabulary and describing the sights, sounds and feelings experienced during the event.

It has been fantastic to see students take their ideas from the planning stage and begin bringing their writing to life. We have seen some very creative and dramatic weather events. I am excited to see their finished products by the end of the week. Here are a couple of examples of the start of our stories...

Drought - By Charlie G

The drought went for eight months, the ground cracked. It was lifeless farmland, getting destroyed under the Mallee Sky. I can see sheep, cows, my family and my house. I felt sad becuase the crops were dead. All that hard work and time and money wasted. All the hard work in planting seeds and waiting for them to grow. I can hear cows mooing for food, like dying foxes. I can see blue skies perishing through the white clouds. 

Bushfire - By William 

It was Saturday morning and I was in my bed and overheard the news saying, "WARNING! A bushfire is spreading all over Beaufort! Everyone evacute now."

The next second, my mum and dad both came in panting and sighing with all mine and their stuff. Then my dad says, "Let's go my little man." 

So we get into the car and drove off down the rocky road as our house faded away. 

Maths - Measurement

In Maths, we have been revisiting measurement, with a focus on length, mass and capacity. Students have had plenty of opportunities to get hands-on, using rulers, tape measures and balance scales to measure and compare everyday objects.

We have explored both informal units of measurement and formal metric units, thinking carefully about which unit and measuring tool is most appropriate for different situations. There has been lots of measuring, estimating, comparing and investigating happening.

Integrated Studies - Continents

We have wrapped up our learning about the continents of the world by completing our information posters. Students have researched and collected interesting facts about their chosen continent before bringing their learning together into a finished poster.

It has been wonderful to see the dedication and care students have put into presenting their information. Students worked in small groups to gather their facts, and did a great job in helping group members catch up when they returned from absences. 

We learnt so many intersting facts about different continents, and discovered some new places that we had never heard of before. 

Grade 3 - Camp

Parents and carers of Grade 3 students, please check XUNO for some details about our upcoming Cave Hill Creek camp next term. If your child is feeling anxious or unsure about camp, please let me know so that we can assist in easing those feelings. We have a jam packed itinerary, and are so excited to see each and every student push their comfort zones and experience new things.
