Boarding News

Mr Jim Noble, Assistant Head of College - Boarding

It was another fantastic weekend in boarding, with plenty happening and a great sense of energy around the place. The boys enjoyed a full program of rugby union and football fixtures on Saturday, and it was wonderful to see both our 1st teams come away with strong wins. These results certainly helped create a very positive and upbeat atmosphere across boarding for the rest of the weekend.

On Friday night, a number of our boarders headed to Suncorp Stadium to watch the Queensland Reds take on the Chiefs – a great outing and a special experience for the boys. Back on campus, we were delighted to welcome the girls from Somerville House for a social evening at Ashgrove. Groups of boys and girls rotated through a range of games in the Champagnat Centre before coming together to prepare and enjoy delicious wood‑fired pizzas using the oven near the Trade Training Centre. It was pleasing to see our boys and the Somerville boarders relaxing together, forming connections and simply enjoying each other’s company.

The weekend concluded with all our boarders sharing a combined Mass on Sunday evening with the Stuartholme boarders. After Mass, everyone enjoyed dinner together and it was lovely to see so many conversations and new friendships forming. With such a wide range of activities on offer over the weekend, it was a wonderful way to kick off National Boarding Week.

I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge a very special member of our boarding team, Ms Erin Livingstone. Erin has been our After Hours Boarding Receptionist for the past five years and has made a tremendous contribution to our community during that time. Many boarding parents will know Erin as the friendly and knowledgeable voice on the end of the phone when help is needed. She is never too busy to assist and always goes above and beyond for our boarders and families.

Erin will be finishing up in her role in the coming weeks as she looks towards new opportunities. She has shared how much she will miss the boys, families and staff who make up our boarding community. Erin is loyal, hardworking, reliable and kind, and I would like to publicly thank her for everything she has done for Marist College Ashgrove Boarding. She leaves with our very best wishes for the future.

Finally, our regional boarding tours continue this term, with several trips coming up. We will be visiting Darwin and Katherine later this month to catch up with current, past and future boarding families. In early July, the College will also attend the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Conference in Atherton, followed by a trip to Central Queensland where we are proud major sponsors of the Alpha Cup race meeting.

All families and friends of Marist College Ashgrove are very welcome to register for these events. We look forward to catching up with you as we hit the road and continue to strengthen our boarding community.
