From Your P&F

We continue to need your help for the biggest term of the year. The sports canteens are only able to operate when parents volunteer their time, and even one hour makes a real difference. If you have a son playing sport at home, we’d love to see you for just one hour in the Flats or Grandstand canteens, or the Coffee Van this coming Saturday 16 May.

This week the Senior School is away at St Pat’s—which means it’s an opportunity for our Year 7 parents to lead the way. If we get enough helpers, we can keep both canteens open across all the games. Last Saturday we had 15 parents who contributed 18 hours across the day … can theYear 7crew beat that? Of course, help from parents across all year levels is always welcome and greatly appreciated.

Last Saturday’s canteen was pumping! We called on the Year 9 cohort to jump in and they delivered—8 volunteers for the Grandstand and 8 for the Flats. The new coffee machine at the Flats was a crowd favourite and will be operating again this week.

A big thank you once again to all our volunteers who made it happen last Saturday (Round 2 – 9 May) and to the small group of parents who continue go above and beyond every week. To those parents who haven’t yet experienced working the canteen, grab a friend and sign up with them and enjoy the college culture, you won’t regret an hour well spent. Year 7 parents we’re looking forward to the enthusiasm you always bring.

Remember - Just one hour a term if you have a son playing sport really does make all the difference to keeping this much-valued service open for our Marist and AIC communities. This makes Saturday more manageable for all our home and visiting families, provides directions for many a lost visiting player, covers a not-so-surprising number of ‘ohhhhhhh …. I forgot my water bottle' events, and provides funds in support of school projects.

Don’t forget - Students can also volunteer in the Sports Canteens under the Mates program:

  • Years 11 and 12 can Sign-Up and serve without a parent/guardian
  • Year 5-10 can Sign-Up and serve alongside a parent/guardian
  • Counter service only – no grills, or deep fryer
  • Students need to be in uniform
  • On completion of the shift, students need to register their time using the QR code available in each canteen. (Another volunteer or a member of the canteen staff can access the form if student does not have a phone.)
