Concussions

As part of the ISA, St Pius X College subscribes to the ISA Concussion Protocol.  The college follows their guidelines on students who have suffered a concussion or suspected concussion, and aims to protect the welfare and health of students.

Once a concussion has been confirmed by a health care practitioner, the ISA adopts the Australian Institute of Sport graded return to sport protocol for community and youth sport.

Of note, this includes (but is not limited to) the following:

  • The player should be at least 14 days symptom-free (at rest) before returning to contact/collision training. This 14 days commences when the player is symptom free (after consultation with a health care practitioner), not 14 days from the time of concussion.

  • A minimum period of 21 days until the resumption of competitive contact/collision sport.

  • Consideration of ALL symptom domains (physical, cognitive, emotional, fatigue, sleep) throughout the recovery process.

Concussion through Club Sport

If a student suffers a concussion through club sport, they should forward a copy of the concussion referral and then clearance form completed by a health care practitioner to Student Reception, and the same return to school sport protocol applies as for ISA sport.

It is essential that parents notify the college of ANY club-related concussions so that we can best support our students returning to the classroom and sporting field.

Please see the attached ISA Concussion Policy for further information.

Concussion Hotline

The college has been made aware of a valuable online resource in the form of the Concussion Hotline. This is a user-pays service backed by experts in the field of concussion.   The hotline provides 24/7 access to Australian-based GPs for a 'telehealth' consultation and next steps advice.

The website is https://concussionhotline.com.au/ and provides interesting information around concussion.

2026/27 Cricket Season

St Pius X College Cricket is beginning to gather interest for the upcoming 2026/27 season.

Cricket is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their skills, represent the College, build friendships and enjoy the challenge of team sport. Whether students are experienced players, returning cricketers, or new to the game, we encourage families to start the conversation at home about getting involved.

Further information about MWJCA registrations, training and season details will be shared soon.

Are you ready to represent St Pius X College Cricket in 2026/27?

Unfortunately the weather got the better of us for many games last weekend. It was, however, great to see the 16A’s and 5th XI continue with their strong form this season.

Congratulations to 1st XI player Ethan Fajemisin, who has been selected to represent the NSWCIS at the NSW All School Championships this month.

Our College 1st XI will compete in the NSWCIS semi final, under lights at Valentine Sports Park on Wednesday 10 June, commencing at 6:00 pm.  All support is welcome but any student who attends must be present in full winter school uniform.

A reminder that there are no games this weekend due to the King’s Birthday weekend.

ISA Round 3 – Kinross Wolaroi School

Despite challenging weather, last weekend’s round of ISA rugby showcased a number of strong efforts across the fixtures that were able to be played.

The 1st XV displayed admirable resilience and composure, earning a hard-fought draw in a tightly contested match. A standout performance came from the 16A team, who produced a dominant display, controlling the game from start to finish to secure an impressive victory.

Overall, there were plenty of encouraging signs, with the determination of the 1st XV and the clinical execution of the 16As standing out as highlights of the day.

Rugby Supporters’ Day – Saturday, 20 June at Oxford Falls

We warmly invite all students and their families to join us for our annual Rugby Supporters’ Day at Oxford Falls, now rescheduled to Saturday, 20 June due to last weekend’s inclement weather.

We encourage everyone to stay and show their support for our 1st and 2nd XV teams throughout the day. As a special thank you, students will receive a token for a complimentary sausage sandwich, available from 2:00 pm.

Many of our Year 12 students have been representing the College on the rugby field since Year 5, and it is a wonderful tradition to acknowledge and celebrate their final season. This event is also a fantastic opportunity for younger students to experience the spirit of St Pius rugby and be inspired for their own future journeys.

We look forward to seeing you there on the 20th, cheering loudly and showing your support!

Squash

It was another highly competitive weekend of squash, resulting in narrow losses across most divisions. Despite the scores, all players demonstrated noticeable improvements throughout their matches.

A special mention goes to Princeton Wong, who fought an epic, down-to-the-wire battle that was ultimately decided in the final game. While he narrowly missed out on the win, it was an outstanding effort. Keep up the dedication at training, team - the rewards will follow on court!

Mr Paul Formosa - Squash Convenor

Tennis

Round 5 saw most of our teams up against arch-rivals St Patrick’s. Always formidable opponents, St Pat’s came ready to play and were dominant in many divisions. At home, our Div 8 and Div 10 teams had victories while our First 5 and Div 9 teams were victorious on the away courts. Our First V are now sitting in 2nd place on the table, well done!

Training

Just a reminder that part of selecting ISA Tennis as your College Cocurricular is attending the scheduled training sessions. Attendance has been down in recent weeks. Please make sure you take full advantage of the coaching being offered to you by attending training each week.

Long Weekend

No ISA tennis, enjoy the weekend off.
