Chinese Club - Pumpkin Mochi Making
At recess on Thursday of Week 6, students took part in a fun and engaging cultural cooking activity run by Ms Lee as part of Chinese Club. The activity brought students together to make pumpkin mochi with sweet red bean filling, giving everyone the chance to help shape the treats by hand.
Students enjoyed learning the different steps involved in making the mochi, carefully shaping the dough and adding the filling. There was plenty of excitement as everyone compared their creations and worked together throughout the activity.
After all the hard work, students were able to enjoy tasting the pumpkin mochi they had made themselves. The activity was a wonderful way to celebrate culture, encourage teamwork and create a welcoming environment for students to try something new. Special thanks to Ms Lee for organising and running the activity for students to enjoy.
Chinese Club takes place every Monday at recess and welcomes all students interested in language, culture, food and fun activities.
Thank you!
Alfred Hu - Year 10 student
Also, a special thanks to Mr Michael Ronchetti and Ms Rebecca Matthews for joining us and providing their support for this event.

Microfiction Grand Final
On Tuesday morning, 32 students from across Years 5-12 competed in the 2026 Microfiction Grand Final. This is a dedicated writing competition just for St Pius X students, which is now in its 5th year. It is a great opportunity for our students to showcase and craft their writing skills and has a rich history at the College, with recently published author and Old Boy of 2025, Anthony Parissis, being a two-time winner.
In this year's grand final the students had to include the action of 'beholding' and the word 'portrait' within their 100-word story.
Even more impressive is that they only had one hour to conceptualise, draft, and finalise their entry. All participants are in the running to share in a prize pool of $1,000, generously donated by the P&F, including a dedicated Junior School winner.
The winners will be announced in early Term 3 and the book of entries will be published by the end of Term 3.
Good luck to all finalists and thank you to all our entrants this year. Once again, we had over 200 stories written in total!
Maths Drop-In
It has been wonderful to see so many students taking advantage of the Maths Drop-In sessions in preparation for their upcoming assessment tasks. It is wonderful to see the dedication and commitment towards their learning and academic success.
Maths Drop In allows students to seek clarification, consolidating their understanding of key concepts, practising problem-solving strategies, and build confidence in their mathematical skills.
Consistent effort, perseverance, and a willingness to seek assistance are key ingredients for success in Mathematics, and it is fantastic to see these qualities each week.
Due to next week's Athletics Carnival, Tuesday's Maths Drop-In will be held on Wednesday.
