Supporting Our Students:
Wellbeing Supports & Positive Activities for Young People in Saltwater
At Saltwater, the wellbeing of every student is at the heart of what we do. We know that growing up brings a range of experiences - exciting milestones as well as challenges. From managing friendships and school expectations to navigating emotions and family changes, young people sometimes need extra support beyond the classroom.
Within the Saltwater and wider Wyndham community, there are a number of external services available to support children, young people and families. Free local youth counselling programs, community-based wellbeing services and telephone supports such as Kids Helpline are available to provide confidential advice and guidance when needed. These services can assist young people experiencing anxiety, friendship difficulties, school stress or personal challenges.
If families are unsure where to begin, our Saltwater wellbeing team is here to help. We can provide information about appropriate local services and assist with referrals where additional or ongoing support may be beneficial.
Keeping Young People Engaged & Connected in Our Community
Staying active, connected and engaged plays a significant role in promoting positive mental health. Saltwater and the surrounding Point Cook area offer a variety of opportunities for young people to build friendships and develop confidence.
Our local Saltwater Community Centre hosts youth programs and activities throughout the year, providing safe spaces for young people to connect. Local sporting clubs, recreational groups and community events also offer excellent opportunities for students to stay active and involved.
At home, families can support wellbeing by encouraging:
Regular physical activity, such as bike rides, walks or sport
Creative activities like art, music, cooking or building projects
Screen-free family time to strengthen connection
Consistent routines that support healthy sleep and balance
Open conversations about emotions and challenges
Small, consistent habits can make a big difference in helping young people feel secure and supported.
How Saltwater P-9 Can Help
Our wellbeing team works closely with students across all year levels to provide support within the school environment. This may include individual check-ins, small group programs focused on social skills or resilience, and support during times of change.
Where needed, we can also assist families with referrals to external counselling or youth support services within Wyndham. Early support is key, and we encourage families to reach out if they have any concerns - big or small.
If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher, who can work alongside our wellbeing team to determine the most appropriate next steps.
By working in partnership with families, we can continue to nurture a supportive Saltwater community where every student feels safe, valued and supported to reach their full potential.
