Year Four

Dear Year Four Community,

 

Literacy 

In Literacy, students have been diving deep into character traits, learning how to distinguish between inside traits (a character’s personality and actions) and outside traits (their physical appearance). To bring their writing to life, we have been exploring the power of adjectives and synonyms. By finding more descriptive alternatives for common words, students are building their vocabulary and learning to "show, not tell" within their narratives.

Mathematics

Our Mathematicians have been busy exploring the world of geometry! We have been identifying 2D shapes and 3D objects, investigating their specific properties such as faces, edges, and vertices. The students have also been investigating symmetry in the environment, practising how to identify lines of symmetry as well as understanding rotational symmetry—discovering how many times a shape fits into itself during a full turn.

Wellbeing

During our Wellbeing lessons, students have been focusing on how to be resilient workers. We have been discussing the importance of perseverance when faced with challenges and how to demonstrate our IB Learner Profile attributes both at school and within the wider community. Seeing the students reflect on being principled and caring citizens has been a highlight of our week.

Inquiry

We have officially begun our first Unit of Inquiry under the theme "Who We Are." Students have been identifying what identity means and exploring the different values that make us unique. We have also been reflecting on our role models, discussing the specific values and qualities these people possess that make them inspiring. It has been wonderful to see the students connect their personal beliefs to the people they admire.

Reminders

•    We are a SunSmart school so students need to wear their hats  outside in Term One and Four.

•    Please ensure your child's ICT Agreement is signed.

•    Don't forget to sign the Photo and Local Excursion Permission forms which are on XUNO

•    Students are to bring a full water bottle to school each day.

•    iPads should be brought to school fully charged.
