WPS Community Children’s Garden

Thanks to retired new Woodender, Michael, for offering to help out with Garden Club. This extra pair of hands has helped immensely. If anyone else has any friends / parents / grandparents who may have some free time on Mondays to toil in the school garden with young children, send them my way.  People don’t have to be a parent of WPS students, just have a WWCC and enthusiasm for supporting young children.

The extra hands in the garden has meant we have been able to finish off some jobs that we have been working on for many weeks:

  • Thornless blackberries are pruned, tied to the fence and ready to provide us with lots of fruit in summer.

  • Thanks to Hayden for fixing the retaining wall along the raspberry bed – the kids loved this hard yakka job.

We took advantage of the rain that was forecast for this week and moved some self-sewn lambs ears, native grasses and native lilies into the garden beds around the school. The students enjoyed our ‘excursion’ to another section of the school and installing plant guards to protect their plants from being trampled.
