Principal Team Update

Hi BPS families,

As we rapidly head towards the end of term, I would like to take the opportunity to celebrate how hard all of our students have worked this term. Our students have all had exciting experiences. Our Year 6 students were surfing and snorkelling on camp. Year 5 students were exploring the gold rush and 1800s as part of their camp at Sovereign Hill, more recently getting ready for NAPLAN and Upstanders. Year 4 students were part of an adventure camp at Arrabri Lodge, from all feedback the Giant Swing seems to be the highlight for Term 1. Our Year 3 students have worked hard getting ready for NAPLAN and their Team Work incursion. The Year 1, 2 and 4 students have been swimming at BlueFit. Our Year 1 students are heading to Myuna Farm this week and Year 2 students will also be attending a Space Dome incursion. Our Prep students have had a successful start to their schooling - reading stories, working closely with their Year 6 buddies as well as adjusting to full time school! We are all looking forward to the Easter Bonnet Parade alongside the Preps walking around the Concourse, a historic event which will create life long memories. Some of our Year 6 students have written to the local traders about their memories from when they were in Prep and experienced their Easter Bonnet Parade.

We would like to acknowledge the work of the 2024 School Council as they have been a very supportive and proactive group of parents and staff that are invested in the positive progress of Beaumaris Primary School. Thank you to our School Council President, Steve Marshall, Vice President, Alison Carpenter, Treasurer, Sara Varnell and Secretary Catherine Lamb, for their work as role bearers within School Council. Alison has been a long-standing member of School Council and has worked tirelessly on developing opportunities for both students and families to have greater impact on BPS. I would also like to thank Bernie Fernandez for his term and contribution to School Council. Grace Hulls has been re-elected as a DET member to our School Council. Last week we held our first School Council for the 2025-26 cycle. School Council oversees governance and compliance. I would like to thank all current and new members of School Council. All government schools in Victoria have a School Council. They are legally constituted bodies that are given powers to set the broad direction of a school, in accordance with Ministerial Order 1280 Constitution of Government School Councils, and the Education and Training Reform Act 2006. In doing this, a School Council may directly influence the quality of education for students.

Congratulations to our four Year 4 students who competed at the Division Swimming event. Sari, Kaia, Hannah, and Ellie competed in the 4X50m freestyle relay and came an incredible second. We're very proud of these students and their fantastic effort in the lead up to and on the day of the event. Congratulations to all of our students who competed and gave it their best during the swimming competition.

Last week you may have noticed the installation of new signage around our school. We think this new update looks great and complements the other updates our grounds have received. Thank you for sharing your positive feedback about our new signage!

Please remember that our Kiss & Go areas are designated for a very quick drop off and pick up. Please don't park your car and enter the school grounds. Thank you for using these areas safely and as intended.

We are looking forward to welcoming many families into the school tomorrow, Wednesday 26th, for our Prep 2026 Open Morning. Our Year 6 students have been busy preparing to lead prospective families on tours of our school and we know that these families will gain a lot from hearing from our student's perspective.

Next term we have a Professional Learning Day on the 24th of April, which has previously been communicated. Our staff will be continuing their Professional Learning on Cognitive Load, Engagement Norms and Literacy. On behalf of the team at Beaumaris Primary School, we would like to wish everyone a safe and happy break. We are looking forward to everyone coming back for Term 2 on Tuesday 22nd April.

Enjoy your week.

David, Grace, Keli and Ellen
