What's Happening in the Middle School

Year 3
What’s Happening in Year 3 in Weeks 9 and 10
We are incredibly proud of our Year 3 students for the effort and resilience they have shown in completing NAPLAN. They approached the assessments with focus and determination, and we commend them for their hard work. With NAPLAN now behind us, we are excited to settle back into our regular learning routine and continue building strong momentum for the remainder of the term. There is still so much exciting learning ahead, and we look forward to seeing the students continue to grow and achieve their best.

Reminders
- If you have not already done so, please can you pay and/or consent for the upcoming incursion.
- Please encourage and remind the children to read regularly and record this in their diaries. Diaries need to be checked by parents daily for messages from the class teacher and diaries should be brought daily back to school.
- Mathletics tasks have been set and are available for children to complete if they wish.

Year 4
What’s Happening in Year 4 in Weeks 9 & 10
It is difficult to believe, but Term 1 is coming to a conclusion.
The Year 4 students all had a wonderful time at Arrabri Lodge Camp. The camp instructors repeatedly commented on our students’ positive attitudes as well as their impeccable manners. They were a credit to both their school and families.
Wellbeing
Students will continue to listen to a podcast called ‘Grow Your Mind’ during class sessions. The next two weeks will focus on how we develop skills to deal with conflict fairly, and respectfully.
Literacy
During Literacy sessions, students will be using the text ‘Why I love Australia’ to discover strategies they can implement to improve their personal writing. Using this book as inspiration, they will be writing, illustrating and publishing their own stories, describing something in their lives they love.
Maths
Maths sessions will be focusing on fractions. We will be learning about different types of fractions, as well as strategies to assist with the adding and subtracting of fractions.
Knowledge Unit
Our Knowledge Unit in Term 1 will be a study in Health. The next few weeks will focus on gender stereotypes both in books and films. We will also be studying different types of health such as mental, physical and emotional.
Homework
The Year 4 students are expected to read every night and record their progress in their personal diaries. It is the responsibility of the student to bring their diary to school every day and take it home each night to log their reading. Classroom teachers will be checking and signing these diaries regularly to monitor student reading habits. The student diary will also be used to highlight important dates and reminders.
