Neurodiversity Celebration Week

Last week, and continuing into this week, we celebrated Neurodiversity Celebration Week at Beaumaris Primary School.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is about celebrating the strengths and talents of people who think and learn differently. It is also about recognising hard work and determination. We all learn in different ways, and each of us has our own unique strengths and challenges.

We are highlighting, learning more about and celebrating the strengths and talents of people with learning differences such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, bipolar disorder, and Tourette syndrome. It's a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about the importance of kindness, understanding, and inclusion.

We absolutely loved the poster that one of our Year 3 students, Freya, created and displayed around our school. It beautifully captured the spirit of Neurodiversity Celebration Week. You may have also noticed other posters around the school highlighting some of the most creative, ingenious and famous people of our time who have a learning difference. These posters have sparked engagement and conversations with the students which has been wonderful to see.

We also had a team of students from a range of year levels come together on Friday at lunchtime to create a collaborative artwork - a Neurodiversity collage. Students were invited to add pictures, words and quotes about what neurodiversity means to them. Mrs Winfield and Mrs McSwain loved working on this with Eamon from Year 6. He did a brilliant job leading this project. Enjoy some photos and a video of the creative process below.
