Volunteer induction and registration
It has been great to see a number of parents complete the induction and registration so that they can volunteer at BPPS in 2026.
Just a reminder, if you would like to volunteer at BPPS, we ask that you please complete the BPPS Volunteer and Induction online registration. The registration includes important guidelines to support you, the teacher and your child. This is an annual requirement, so families who completed the form last year will need to submit a new registration for this year.
At Boroondara Park Primary School, we are committed to nurturing the talents of every student and providing opportunities for them to strive for excellence, experience success, and reach their full potential. Our classroom programs are designed to meet the diverse needs of all learners, with lessons in English and Mathematics differentiated to support and challenge students at their individual level.
For students working well above their expected level, we offer enrichment opportunities that extend their learning and encourage critical thinking, creativity, and a love of learning.
Maths Extension Program
Our Maths Extension Program has begun again this term and will be run by Carli Greenwood again. This program is designed for students in Years 3–6 who demonstrate exceptional aptitude in mathematics and provides advanced learning opportunities aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0.
The program aims to extend high-achieving students who show advanced ability across the mathematics strands - number, algebra, measurement, geometry, statistics and probability - as well as strong aptitude, lateral thinking and perseverance when solving problems.
Students in the program engage in:
Participation in mathematical challenges and competitions across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region
High Ability Writing Workshops
A number of students in Years 3–6 who demonstrate a passion and talent for writing are also taking part in High Ability Writing Workshops facilitated by Julie Tainsh. Workshops include:
Staff Professional Learning
Our Grade 3–4 teacher Llaaneath Poor recently attended a professional development course at the Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES). This program focuses on enhancing teaching practices for high-ability students in Victorian government schools and provides strategies to help teachers identify and support high-ability learners through effective curriculum design and classroom practice.
Llaaneath will be sharing her learning with staff through a follow-up professional learning session.
Our students have particpated in NAPLAN assessments over the last two weeks. Students sat assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The questions assess content linked to the Australian Curriculum: English and Mathematics.
As you will know, there was a bit of a rocky start for the Year 5s writing test across Australia with some schools impacted by technical issues the national assessment platform. While these issues delayed the start of our test, we were able to begin at 12:30 pm, and all students who were present successfully completed the test.
Doing the NAPLAN assessment online means students answer questions that adapt to their performance during the test. Each student’s results will be based on both the number and the difficulty of the questions they have answered correctly.
NAPLAN acts as a diagnostic tool that provides a "point-in-time" snapshot of student skills in reading, writing, and numeracy for years 3, 5, 7, and 9. It can help teachers and parents identify specific skills where a student may need extra support or greater challenges. Importantly NAPLAN only assesses specific aspects of literacy and numeracy and does not replace the more comprehensive, ongoing assessments conducted by our teachers.
Individual student reports for NAPLAN are released in Term 3 2026.
