During Week 6, Year 11 Certificate III in Visual Arts students went out into industry to “Our Space Ceramic Studio” in Newmarket, where they engaged in a wheel-throwing workshop and created their own vessels. Each student successfully produced at least one well-formed item which after being fired and glazed will be able to be used as a functional item. The Certificate III in Visual Arts course is a nationally recognised industry qualification and exposes students to practical applications of skills and techniques in the media areas of Ceramics, Screenprinting, Photography and Stained Glass production. Thank you to Ms Julia Wilken and Ms Stacey Finch for accompanying the boys in what was an enjoyable experience for all.

Year 11 General Visual Art students have been exploring a range of experimental processes so far this year and this week they learnt about the sustainable technique of eco-dyeing. This technique uses heat to transfer natural pigments, tannins, and acids from leaves, flowers, and other botanical materials onto paper in a broth of vinegar, green tea, onion skin, rusty metal objects and eucalyptus leaves. Students will be using the naturally dyed paper that has been enhanced with patterns and textures from natural materials to develop an artist book.
