Jazz Night is just around the corner and the music block is buzzing as our wonderful ensembles and soloists continue in their dedicated rehearsals in the lead up to the night. Jazz Night is one of the highlights of the year and all our ensembles will be performing (except Junior Band). Along with our Norwood ensembles, a local professional Jazz Band, “Plan B” will be performing and accompanying our senior singers. The event will be held in the hall and families are invited to bring their own supper and refreshments to enjoy alongside the music. This is a fabulous community event and is always a sell out, so get in fast when tickets go live.
Tickets will be available through TryBooking from Tuesday, 6 May.
We had the wonderful Hayley T from Year 11 play the last post alongside our dedicated brass teacher Ms Innes at the ANZAC assembly at the start of term. They were both excellent, and I want to thank them both for their dutiful preparation for this important role in the assembly.
The string orchestra played at this week’s open night and their sound could be heard through all of M block. They played brilliantly and many families came and watched them play throughout the night as they played a variety of works. I would like to thank all students in the ensemble, their hard work has made the night a rousing success! A special thanks to their conductor Mr Howard, who has put so much work into making the strings ready for the night.

Over the Easter weekend, Oren B (Bass Trombone) and Zetara B (Eb Tuba) represented Box Hill Academy Brass at the Australian National Band Championships. Box Hill Academy Brass are rising as one of Australia’s best Junior Brass Bands, having recently been promoted to Junior B grade Brass after winning the Nationals last year.
Over Easter 2025, they took out 1st place in the Junior B Grade Brass division after months of rehearsals and hard work. The band played a sacred item, test piece, own choice major work and a stage march, which were all adjudicated by Norwegian conductor and Yamaha artist, Margie Antrobus. Their performances can be viewed here.
Well done Oren and Zetara!
