Principal Report

Jackie Harris

Welcome back

I trust that all students have had a restful break and feel energised, ready for a busy and productive Term 2. Preparations are currently underway for the much anticipated Jazz Night and the anticipation is building for Oliver the Musical.

ANZAC Day

Last week, we held a special College Assembly to mark this important event. I would like to take this opportunity to particularly thank Captain Klebaner, a commissioned officer in the Australian Army, for his address to students and staff, as well as thanks to the students involved. Please take the time to read Captain Klebaner's address which has been published in this edition of the newsletter. Captain Klebaner shared with students the story of Villers Brettenoux, a town in Northern France that has embraced the ANZAC legacy and remembers to this day, the support they received from Australians.

A special thank you to the following students who took part in the formalities at the assembly:

Liam Russell: Providing the College Captain address about the history of the ANZACs.

Tayla Donald: Recital of ‘In Flanders Fields.

Mitch Laurie: Raising and lowering of the flag.

Leia Blythman-Rella & Eamon Ferguson: The laying of the wreath.

Hayley Tonkin: together with her Instrumental teacher, Lauren Innes, playing the Last Post and Reveille.

The assembly was particularly special with Mitch, Leia and Eamon wearing their Cadet uniforms.  Thank you to all students for your respect and participation at what was a very special assembly.

Open Night

Our annual Open Night was well attended this week, offering insights to prospective families about all aspects of our College. Thank you to the students who attended this event, participated in activities and answered a multitude of questions. We received high praise from families for our students, who conducted themselves as exemplary role models. One hundred students attended this event. Thank you also to Holly, Eden and Tayla for preparing and delivering speeches on the night.

College Review

Every four years, schools undertake a thorough and purposeful review on all aspects of school business, led by an external reviewer, employed by the Education Department and with support from other Principals in the role of 'critical friends'. We look forward to a close analysis of our school performance, feedback from staff, students and families to inform the writing of our next Strategic Plan. Many families responded to a recent survey providing feedback on College highlights and making suggestions for improvements. Please be assured that this feedback will inform the consultation process. There may be further opportunities for families to be involved. I will be sure to keep the community updated on the progress of this Review in Term 2.
