Year 1 Cockatoos and Kangaroos
This term, the Cockatoos and Kangaroos have been working hard in Literacy, where we have been learning about procedure writing. Using The Gruffalo as our inspiration, students have been exploring how to write clear instructions in the correct order. They have enjoyed identifying the features of procedures and creating their own step-by-step instructions to make fairy bread and Gruffalo Crumble.
In Mathematics, we have been developing our addition and subtraction skills using a range of hands-on materials. We have been using ten frames, bead strings, and counters to help them solve number problems and build their understanding of mathematical concepts.
In Religious Education we have been learning about the Holy Spirit and discussing how the Holy Spirit guides and helps us in our daily lives. The students have enjoyed sharing their thoughts and making connections to their faith.
Year 4 Geckoes & Koalas
English
In English this term, Year 4 have been thoroughly enjoying their reading groups and are working hard to develop their summarising skills. It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence in identifying key ideas and expressing them clearly. We are also exploring biography writing, focusing on the incredible life of David Attenborough. The students have been highly engaged in this unit and are producing some fantastic pieces of writing, showing great effort and creativity.
Maths
In Maths, we have been focusing on building strong number fluency skills, helping students become more confident and efficient in their calculations. Alongside this, we have been learning about time, with students developing their understanding of reading clocks and solving time-based problems. We have also been exploring data collection, where students have been gathering, organising, and interpreting information. It has been great to see their enthusiasm and growing understanding in applying these skills.
Religious Education (RE)
In RE, students have been deeply engaged in interactive learning about the Eucharist as they prepare for their First Holy Communion. We were blessed to have a wonderful retreat day at Holy Cross, which provided a meaningful opportunity for reflection and spiritual growth. Last week, we also celebrated a beautiful Reconciliation Liturgy at school. Students have spent time thoughtfully reflecting on these experiences, demonstrating maturity and a growing understanding of faith.
We are all very excited and looking forward to our upcoming excursion, which will provide a wonderful opportunity for learning beyond the classroom.
