Year 3 Excursion

Our Year Three students had an unforgettable day at Junior Farmer Day, where they explored real‑life farming practices through a range of hands‑on activities. Students learned about the life cycle of an egg, discovering how a chick develops before hatching, and then had the special opportunity to hold baby chicks. They also enjoyed feeding chickens, petting baby pigs, and exploring different types of wool to understand how farmers care for animals and produce materials we use every day.
Throughout the day, students moved through a variety of learning stations. They learned how wheat becomes oats, crushing grains and watching the transformation from plant to food. A highlight was watching a drone demonstration, where students saw how modern technology helps farmers monitor crops and manage large areas of land.
Students also took part in a science investigation, completing an experiment to extract DNA from strawberries, which sparked plenty of excitement and wonder. It was a wonderful day that helped students deepen their understanding of food and fibre production and appreciate the important work farmers do in our community.
