Year 1/2 Report

Term 4, 2026
Welcome back to Term 4! It’s lovely to see the children settled back into the classroom and ready for another exciting term of learning and celebrating their achievements together.
Literacy
This term, students are exploring fables and persuasive texts. We’ve been reading stories such as The Emperor’s Egg, discussing characters, discovering interesting words and retelling the main events. Students will be creating their own fables filled with imaginative characters and exciting adventures.
We will also be learning how to write persuasive texts, sharing opinions and exploring how authors use words to influence readers. Students will continue working towards their individual learning goals as they grow in confidence as readers and writers.
Phonics
Students will continue learning through the UFLI phonics program to build their reading and spelling skills. They will practise hearing and identifying sounds in words, blending sounds to read words, and breaking words into sounds to help with spelling. Students will also learn and practise spelling patterns to support their reading and writing, helping them become more confident and independent learners.
Numeracy
This term, we’re exploring fractions, shapes and measurement through fun, hands on activities. The children are learning to recognise and make equal parts, identify and describe different shapes, and compare and measure objects using a range of everyday materials. These activities help build their mathematical understanding and confidence in solving problems.
Inquiry
This term, students are exploring how life has changed over generations, with a special focus on games and play in the past. They will learn about and try different olden day games, discovering how children played and had fun before today’s toys and games. It will be a wonderful opportunity to compare their own experiences with those of children in the past!
Social and Emotional Learning
This term, students are learning how to recognise and express their feelings, ask for help when needed, and understand how others may feel. We are also exploring how to build and maintain friendships, use kind words and actions, and manage disagreements in positive and respectful ways.
Reminders
School starts at 8:50am each day. It is essential that students are at school by 8.50 am as phonics lessons start at 9am sharp. Coming to school late even 10 mins each day means your child is missing important literacy instruction every day.
