Term 4: Little Scientists, Little Chemists & Creative Discoveries
Weeks 1–2: Becoming Materials Detectives
Our STEAM students have kicked off the term by becoming materials detectives! Across all year levels, students have been investigating everyday materials, exploring their properties and discovering how substances can change. Our younger scientists have been sorting materials by their texture, flexibility and appearance, while our older students have been exploring solids, liquids and gases, particle models, mixtures and the evidence of chemical reactions.
In Visual Arts, students have transformed their scientific observations into creative works using texture, colour, printmaking and mixed-media techniques. It has been wonderful to see students asking questions, making predictions and discovering how science and art work together.
Congratulations to Our Science Talent Search Students!
Congratulations to our STEAM students who participated in the 2026 Science Talent Search, celebrating its 75th year! We are incredibly proud of their creativity, curiosity and scientific thinking.
A special congratulations to Ruhani and Tilly, who received a Certificate of Distinction for their scientific posters, and to Jai, Audrey, Daisy and Josephine, who received a Certificate of Merit for their inventions, creative writing and working models. Congratulations also to Charlie, who received a Certificate of Acknowledgment for his experimental research project.
We would like to thank all participating students for their enthusiasm and hard work, and their families for their wonderful support and encouragement. Well done, everyone!
Upcoming Incursion: Monash University Chemistry Immersion
A friendly reminder that this coming Monday and Tuesday, our students will participate in an exciting, hands-on Chemistry Immersion experience delivered by Monash University! Students will take part in engaging, age-appropriate activities designed to bring chemistry to life through practical investigations and real-world applications. From exploring Kitchen Chemistry with everyday materials in Prep to Year 2, to investigating more advanced chemical concepts in the older year levels, students will have the opportunity to experiment, observe and discover the science behind the world around them.
For further information about the incursion, please refer to the Compass event sent out last week. We look forward to two exciting days of scientific exploration and discovery!
