Year 3/4 News

Inform and Empower

The topic for this term is Cyberbullying. All Year 3/4 students joined in the live-streamed incursion this week. We heard about how to develop strategies for navigating uncomfortable situations online. We will also explored what it means to be an upstander, as well as consent.

Year 3 

In year 3 we have been continuing to return to our routines well and are getting into the swing of term 3.

Religion

In religion we have been looking at the Beatitudes and the Sermon On The Mount. We have been working to understand the meaning of each of the Beatitudes and relate them to both our modern world and our own lives. Our students will continue to look at the Beatitudes and create a poster to show their understanding and impact of the Beatitudes in their own lives. 

Literacy

In literacy we have been continuing to look at ‘Off We Go Around Australia’ and have been reading through the second part of the book called, ‘To The Top End’. We have been learning about different places in Australia as we follow the family and their journey from Tasmania to the Northern Territory. Our students have also done a wonderful job creating an informative presentation about their choice of Australian attraction, either Kakadu National Park, The Daintree Rainforest, or The Great Barrier Reef. We have also continued working on our spelling knowledge through PHORMES as we look at the ‘air’, ‘are’, and ‘ear’ codes.

Maths

In numeracy we have been busy working through our unit on angles and starting to learn about telling time. For angles our students have learnt all about how angles are measures of rotation. We have spent time understanding right angles as exactly 1 quarter turn and we have used this to help us identify angles with less and more rotation than a right angle. Our students have also begun to start learning and using the names of different angles. In our unit on time, we have started to learn about parts of an analog clock and what they represent. Our students have been practicing reading and representing time from o’clock up to 1 minute accuracy. We will be continuing to work on their accuracy with analog time and looking at making connections with digital and elapsed time. 

Inquiry

In inquiry we have been continuing to look at places around Australia as we learn about Geography. Our students have been interpreting maps as they locate a range of local, state and national places. We have been using ‘My Google Maps’ to find and mark different places and create a Google Slides presentation about the places we have found. We will continue using these tools to explore more of Australia and the wider world over the coming weeks.

Wellbeing

In wellbeing we have been continuing to reinforce our school expectations and routines. We have also been engaging in our next Inform and Empower lesson as we look at cyberbullying and navigating uncomfortable online situations. Our students have enjoyed being part of the online lessons and engaging with the content.

Year 4

It has been another busy and exciting couple of weeks in the classroom, with students continuing to engage enthusiastically across all learning areas. It has been wonderful to see their confidence and independence grow as they take on new learning challenges.

Camp

As you will be aware Year 4 camp is fast approaching and excitement is building.   All year 4 students have been given a 'What I need to pack list'. Remember  there is an Online information session for parents on Tuesday August 11th @ 7pm. The Google Meet link will be sent home via DOJO next week. Religion

In Religion, students have been learning about St Patrick, discovering why he is recognised as a saint and the lasting impact of his life and faith. They have also begun learning about St Mary MacKillop, exploring her dedication to serving others and the important role she played in Australian Catholic history. 

Literacy

In Literacy, students have continued reading our class novel, Storm Boy. Through rich class discussions, students have explored the journeys of the characters, examining how they have grown and changed throughout the story. During Writing, students have been developing their sentence-writing skills by learning how to create compound and complex sentences. They have also been exploring descriptive writing, using precise vocabulary and sensory language to create vivid descriptions that engage the reader.

Maths

In Mathematics, students have been learning about angles, recognising, identifying and comparing different types of angles in everyday objects and shapes. They have also begun exploring location and map reading, using maps, grids and directions to develop their spatial awareness and navigation skills.

Inquiry

For Inquiry, students have been working with Google My Maps to plot and locate different cities, landmarks and habitats across Australia. This has helped students strengthen their geographical knowledge while developing their digital mapping skills.

Wellbeing

In Wellbeing, students have been participating in the Inform and Empower program, learning about online safety and responsible digital citizenship. Through discussions and activities, students have explored strategies for staying safe online, recognising unsafe situations and knowing where to seek help if needed.

Tissues Please

It's that time of year when there are lots of sniffles & tissues are in high demand.  If you could donate a box of tissues to your child's learning group that would be much appreciated.

Reminders and Important Dates

• Students are to bring their laptops and headphones to school each day. Please make sure these are fully charged. 
• Make sure that all your children's belongings (clothes, lunch boxes, drink bottles, stationery, etc.) are clearly labelled with your child's name. Labelled property can be easily returned to its owner.
