Year 1/2 News
Inquiry:
Students created a timeline to explore how OLSC has changed from when the school was first built to the present day. They investigated what life was like in the past and compared it with what it is like now. Through their learning, students discovered why OLSC is an important place in the community. They identified that OLSC is special because it is a place where students learn and grow, families have been part of the school community for many years, and everyone comes together to pray and celebrate.
Inform and Empower:
The students in 1/2 have engaged in their Digital Safety learning.
They have been learning about Digital footprints and focusing on the importance of not sharing personal information online. They also explored that people online are not always who they say they are.
Literacy:
In Literacy, students have been exploring the texts Jetty Jumping by Andrea Rowe and Castles Crashing. While reading Jetty Jumping, students asked and answered questions about the characters' feelings and explored how the illustrations help readers understand the characters' emotions and how these develop throughout the story.
Students then explored Castles Crashing, where they focused on sequencing the events of the story to build their understanding of narrative structure. They also learnt how to use conjunctions to join two ideas into one sentence and used descriptive language to write about an illustration they had created, adding detail to make their writing more engaging for the reader.
Maths:
In Mathematics, students have been learning to identify, describe and compare a range of 3D objects. They explored how different objects can be built using the same number of blocks and sorted 3D shapes according to their features, sharing and explaining their thinking with others.
Students then investigated multiplication and division through hands-on learning experiences. They practised sharing collections equally, dividing collections into halves, creating and interpreting arrays, and using skip counting to determine the total number of objects in a collection
Religion:
In Religious Education, students have been learning about St Patrick and St Mary MacKillop, exploring how they followed Jesus with strong faith, courage and love. Through stories and discussions, students discovered how both saints trusted God and dedicated their lives to helping others.
Students reflected on what it means to be a disciple of Jesus today by identifying practical ways they can show kindness, compassion and service at school and at home. They shared ideas about how their own actions can make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Students also developed their understanding of prayer by creating and sharing simple prayers, asking for the guidance of St Patrick and St Mary MacKillop, and inviting the Holy Spirit to help them love others with courage, kindness and faith.

Take home books are changed each Wdnesday and returned on a Thursday - Please make sure you are filling in the take home reading log.
iPads needs to be brought daily, charged and ready for use.
