Prep News

We can’t believe we are already almost halfway through the term! Last week was extra special as we celebrated 100 Days of School with a massive celebration. The students had such a wonderful time celebrating this exciting milestone together and it was fantastic to see their smiles, excitement and enthusiasm throughout the day. What a special way to celebrate how far they have come in their first year of school!

🎉 100 Days of School

Last week, we celebrated 100 days of school! We began the day by reading 100 School Days, making our 100 Days crowns and drawing our favourite school memory. After break, the students enjoyed lots of exciting activities, including the jumping castle, dancing and creating a special photo frame. We finished the day by reflecting on our favourite memories and enjoying some yummy cake together. It was a wonderful day filled with fun, laughter and lots of happy memories, with many students declaring, “This has been the best day ever!” 🎈

🥳 Principal's Day

Friday was Australian Primary Principals Day. Some of the prep students were asked what they think Justin does during the day. Thanks for all the work that you do Justin!

📚 Literacy

In Literacy, we have been exploring the story Castle Crashing by Andrea Rowe. We have been learning to write simple sentences and make sentences that work together to create meaning. We focused on identifying the nouns and verbs in sentences and used the story to explore the emotions of the main character, Bonnie. We also made connections by thinking about times when we have felt flustered and discussing what happened, how we reacted and what helped us to feel calm.

🔤 Phonics

We have learnt three new Stage 4 sounds: /u/, /k/ and /x/. We met Milo Monkey's friends: Uncle Upton, Kylie Koala and Max Fox

It has been great to see that so much reading has been happening at home. Please continue to read regularly with your child and record this in your child’s take home journal.

🔢 Mathematics

In Maths, we have been learning about length. We explored the vocabulary long, short, tall, longer than, shorter than, taller than and the same length. Students had lots of opportunities to compare and order objects, including making playdough snakes and ordering them from longest to shortest. We also explored measuring using connecting cubes and estimating how many cubes long different objects might be.

✝️ Religion

In Religion, we have continued learning about Baptism and how, through Baptism, people become children of God and are welcomed into the Church family. We explored the story of Jesus’ Baptism and discussed what happens during a Baptism and why it is important. Students also learnt about some of the symbols and people involved in Baptism, including water, the candle, oil, the priest, parents and Godparents.

🌍 Inquiry

In Inquiry, we have been exploring Science, with a focus on Chemistry. This week, students became little scientists as they made predictions and explored some fun experiments! We investigated what might happen when warm water is poured over Skittles and used our five senses to describe what we observed. Students also learnt that experiments follow a sequence of steps and that the order is important. We are looking forward to continuing our scientific investigations!
