A Word from Justin

Dear Families of OLSC,  

The term is offically at the halfway mark! 

I thank all of the students for their patience over the last few weeks as play has been restricted due to rainfall and some very wet areas in the yard.  I apologise if your child has come home with muddier clothes than usual! 

EBA Negotiations 

There has been a lot of new coverage recently regarding the new award negotiations in both state and catholic schools.  Although the the state schools have been the vocal and widely covered in the news, especially due to teachers' strikes, there has been a lot going on in the catholic sector as well.  Below is a message from Mary Oski on behalf of MACS.  

Supporting our staff while planning for the future

Currently, all Catholic schools are working through planning and budgeting activities for 2027 to ensure we are well placed to support our staff, students and school communities in the coming year. This includes looking at how we can accommodate the changes likely to flow from a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) with school staff.

We recognise the significant financial pressures many households are facing, and we are making a conscious effort to ensure these costs are not passed on through significant fee increases.

We will continue to keep our parent community informed throughout this process. As always, our focus remains on maintaining strong school communities and continuing to deliver a high-quality Catholic education for every student.

Year 6 Sovereign Hill Camp  

Last week, from the 3rd to 5th August, Year 6 Students attended camp at Sovereign Hill in Ballarat.  The camp was packed with activities, and all of the students embraced every opportunity even though the weather was not at all kind.  

Each group participated in gold panning, a gold pour demonstration, lessons with Sovereign Hill staff, bowling, candle making and 2 underground mine tours.  I thank each and every one of our students for the way they conducted themselves and represented our school.  A special shout-out to the staff that attended and planned our camp.  

Confirmation Mass this weekend    

Last weekend many of our Year 6 students celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation.  This event was held at MacKillop College and there were 2 Masses in total to cover the 6 parish schools.  OLSC attended the 1:00 pm mass and celebrated the Sacrament with St John the Apostle, Tarneit and Bethany Catholic School, Werribee.  

The celebration was truly fantastic and, as always, very well planned by John and the RELs from our parish schools.  All staff attended this Mass to support our students and I thank them for giving up their Saturday to be part of the celebration.  

Classroom Cuisine Menu Update

Below you will find attached a copy of the updated menu for Term 3, 2026 for Classroom Cuisine.  There has been significant work modernising and increasing their website's functionality over the term break.  There are now photos of our menu items on the website, as well as the list of ingredients and dietary information.

Literacy News

Book Week begins on Monday 24th August at OLSC. The Book Fair will arrive at school on that day and will open for sales on Tuesday 25th August. The main event of the week is the annual Book Week Dress-up Parade,  where students are invited to dress up as a favourite book character or to wear colourful clothes to celebrate their love of reading.

Families are welcome to join us for this celebratory event as the students parade in their costumes, which will be held on Friday 28th August at 9 am in the school hall.

Library / Discovery Centre - we have paint!

In the last 2 weeks, there has been some further progress on our new Discovery Centre and learning spaces.  In the last two weeks, the ceiling has been installed and all electrical nearing completion.  We are hopeful for handover in the last week of this term.  

Imogen - Run Melbourne 

On Sunday July 19th our very own Imogen completed the Run Melbourne Marathon.  She has been training and did herself proud.  Both Imogen and her sister Tennielle ran the 10K in the CBD with closed roads.  Well done, Imogen, from all of us! 

Found - Pandora Bracelet

A child's size Pandora Bracelet has been found in one of the Learning Spaces and handed to the office.  Please contact the school office if you are missing a bracelet.  

Head Lice / Nits - Please monitor 

There have been several cases of head lice reported over the last couple of weeks.  Please check

your child's / children's hair and treat if necessary.
