🐍 Official Opening of the LHS Zoology Centre 🐸

On Tuesday, July 1, Lilydale High School proudly celebrated the official opening of the LHS Zoology Centre — a major milestone that’s been years in the making!

We were honoured to welcome Harriet Shing MP (Member for Eastern Victoria), John Roberts (Senior Education Improvement Leader), and Georgia & Natasha from the SJ Higgins Group, along with our Principal, Wendy Powson, members of the Principal Team, and our proud student leaders:

🎓 Jenson New – School Captain

🎓 Ruby Davis – School Captain

🎓 Joshua Coleman – Year 12 Captain

🎓 Tahlia Stephens – Year 12 Captain

🎓 Hermione Crocker – Year 7 Captain

Guests were invited totour the Zoology Centre, exploring the beautifully completed enclosures — now home to the largest school reptile and frog collection in Australia!

Following the tour, Harriet Shing officially opened the Centre, marking a proud and memorable moment for the school.

This momentous occasion would not have been possible without the dedication and support of many. A heatfelt thank you goes to Alex Pelgrim for his exceptional skills with the enclosure, and to Stuart Young for his unwavering organisation and drive — both were instrumental in bringing this project to life.

We also thank and acknowledge Mike Swan, Tegan Samphier, and Sue Samphier Coordinators of the LHS Reptile Collection, whose passion and expertise continue to inspire students, and Chris Harris (IT), for his valued technical support.

This is a proud and exciting chapter for our school. We can’t wait to see the incredible learning opportunities this space will bring to our students for years to come!🐢🌿
