Term 2 has been bursting with energy, creativity, and achievement across all year levels here at Lilydale High School.
From hands-on learning experiences in the classroom to exciting extracurricular activities, our students have embraced every opportunity to grow, explore new interests, and celebrate their successes.

🎨 Year 8 Art – Pattern Collage Creations
Students in Ms Rubio’s Year 8 Art classes have been busy creating stunning collages using patterns made from lines and circles.
The final results were vibrant, eye-catching, and full of creativity!
⚽️ Year 6 Sports Gala Day
As part of the Year 6 Sports Gala Day held at Mooroolbark Soccer Club, students from Mr Currie’s Year 10 Sports Coaching class stepped up to support the event by helping with umpiring and scoring for both teeball and soccer.
It was a fantastic day filled with fun, teamwork, and great sportsmanship. Our Year 10 students were outstanding role models, showing leadership and enthusiasm while working with the younger students.

🎬 Yarra Ranges Tech School – Storyboarding Enrichment
Our talented Year 9 students recently took part in the Storyboarding Enrichment Program at Yarra Ranges Tech School, where they explored the exciting world of digital storytelling.
Throughout the day, students used AI tools, graphic tablets, voiceovers, special effects, and video editing software to reimagine classic stories and transform them into original short films. 💡🎨🎞️
The experience wrapped up with an epic movie preview session, showcasing the incredible creativity, teamwork, and tech skills of our students. Every group brought something unique to the screen, and the results were truly inspiring! 🎥✨

🌿🪣 VCE VM Volunteering Excursion
On Monday, May 27, the 11K VCE VM students volunteered to clean up the environment at Lillydale Lake.
Equipped with gloves and buckets, students completed two laps around the lake, collecting approximately 3 kilograms of litter—a fantastic effort!
The group received positive feedback from the public, appreciating the community spirit shown by our students.
Well done, 11K—your hard work made a real difference!

Miss Iggy’s Year 11 class whipped up delicious Savoury Chicken Parcels served with a fresh and tangy Mango and Capsicum Salsa — a perfect blend of flavours that showcased their cooking skills and creativity!
🧵 Stylish & Skilled – PJ Designs in Textiles
Students in Ms Hovanjec’s Textiles class have been busy designing and creating their own pyjama pants and shorts — and the results are as impressive as they are cozy!
Throughout the project, students learned key skills such as selecting the right fabric, aligning patterns, and accurate stitching.
Each garment not only fit beautifully but also reflected the students’ personal style and creativity.

🧪 Year 10 ADP Science – Sports Drink Experiment
Recently, students in the Year 10 Athlete Development Program (ADP) Science class conducted experiments to investigate the electrolyte content in various sports drinks.
Through hands-on testing and data analysis, students explored how different drinks compare in their ability to support hydration and performance — a great connection between science and sport!
🐦 VCE Theatre Studies Take Flight with The Birds
Mr Bleakley, Miss Kilkenny, and the VCE Theatre Studies class recently visited the Malthouse Theatre to experience its gripping production of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘪𝘳𝘥𝘴 – A Deep Dive into Fear and Resilience.
Performed by the incredible Paula Arundell, the show left the audience terrified yet thoroughly entertained. 🫣😱🥺
What made this performance truly unforgettable was its binaural sound design — each audience member wore headphones, allowing them to hear birds flying overhead and immersive, live sound effects from the stage. The result? A spine-tingling, atmospheric experience that made everyone feel as though they were right in the middle of the unfolding drama.
A brilliant example of how theatre can engage, challenge, and transport its audience!
🎪 Stepping into the Spotlight – Year 9 Arts Enrichment Circus Workshop
Our Year 9 Arts Enrichment students had an exciting day diving into the world of circus through a high-energy workshop run by The Circus Crew! 🤹
From juggling to balancing tricks, students pushed their limits, embraced new challenges, and picked up some seriously impressive performing skills along the way.
A big thank you to The Circus Crew for such an inspiring and engaging session — we can’t wait to see these talents shine in future performances!
🧵🐾 Fabrics for Fauna – Fashion Meets Purpose
Students in Ms Hovanjec’s Year 9 Fabrics for Fauna class have been working diligently on a project that blends creativity, compassion, and community spirit.
They’ve designed and sewn a gorgeous range of bandanas and scrunchies for cats, dogs, and puppies — all in preparation for an upcoming student-led fundraising event, hosted in collaboration with the Year 9 Community Time Café class. ☕🍰🍿
This initiative not only showcases the students' growing sewing skills and artistic flair, but also contributes to a great cause while encouraging community engagement.
While Ms Hovanjec facilitated the process — teaching vital skills and overseeing quality control — it was the students who took charge, producing a wide variety of high-quality products in different sizes.
The spotlight was stolen by the gorgeous Daisy, Ms Rubio’s beloved dog, who happily modelled several of the vibrant, student-made bandanas. 💗🐾
With her playful personality and natural charm, Daisy truly brought the fabrics to life. The colours and patterns were a perfect match for her energetic spirit!
Even Ms Rubio was amazed, exclaiming to the students:“These bandanas are better than the ones you buy in a shop!”
Well done to everyone involved — what a fantastic example of creativity with purpose!
🌭🧁 Fundraising with Flavour – Supporting MND
On May 27, Mr Bourne’s 'Side Hustle' class put their entrepreneurial skills to the test by hosting a fantastic fundraising event for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Students organised a bake sale, ran a hamburger stall, and sold Mr Bourne’s famous homemade sausage rolls — all of which were a hit with students and staff!
It was a deliciously successful day with funds raised going toward a very worthy cause. Well done to everyone involved!
🧙♂️ Creative Clay Creations – Pinch Pot Gnomes
During Semester 1, students in Ms Hovanjec’s 8C and 8E Ceramics classes brought imagination to life by creating their own unique ceramic pinch pot gnomes.
Each student added personal flair using colourful glazes and creative accessories, showcasing both their artistic skills and individual style. The final pieces were full of character and charm — a fantastic display of creativity and craftsmanship!
🎎 Bringing History to Life!
Students in Mrs Mortel’s Year 8 Humanities class brought history into the present by working collaboratively to create life-sized samurai warriors, showcasing their knowledge of traditional Japanese culture — resulting in some truly impressive and creative work!

☕ Creative Cups & Stylish Saucers
Our Year 9 Ceramics Functional students have been hard at work designing and creating beautifully crafted functional pieces, including amazing cup and saucer sets. Their creativity and attention to detail truly shine in these practical works of art!
📚 Library Warriors Take on Lilydale Library!
The Library Warriors spent a fun and insightful morning visiting Lilydale Library!
Students got a special behind-the-scenes look and had the chance to try out everyday library tasks — including locating holds, returning books in the circulation room, shelving, and shelf reading.
Through these hands-on activities, students developed practical skills and discovered how each role plays a part in creating a smooth and welcoming library experience for the community.
To top it off, everyone signed up for a library membership and headed home with big smiles — and plenty of great books to read! 📖😁📚
⛳ Personal Development in Action – 11K’s Day at Maroondah Golf Park
As part of their Unit 1 Personal Development Skills assessment, students in 11K took on the challenge of investigating, researching, and planning a class day out — and their chosen destination did not disappoint!
The class headed to Maroondah Golf Park, where they enjoyed a fun and engaging day filled with mini golf challenges and some time on the driving range. The outing offered students a fantastic opportunity to develop teamwork, communication, and social skills outside of the classroom.
Mr Huby commended the group for their excellent behaviour and the respectful way they interacted with members of the public throughout the day. Well done, 11K!
🧟♂️ Double Pinch Pot Monster Creations
Ms Hovanjec's talented 8D Ceramic students have been hard at work designing and creating their own original double pinch pot monster sculptures.
Each student put great thought into their design and showed excellent craftsmanship, carefully refining the surfaces and using a variety of decorative techniques to bring their unique creatures to life.
The creativity and attention to detail is outstanding — well done to all students!
☕️ LHS CAFE Update!
New semester, new students, and new recipes! This week, our Year 9 Community Time Café class held their very first lunchtime event in the Performing Arts Centre foyer.
They served up some delicious treats like Triple Chocolate and Caramel Brownies, Iced Drinks, Popcorn, Sausage Rolls, Apple Pie with Custard, and hot drinks—all for just $1.50!
A huge congratulations to our students on a fantastic start. Can’t wait to see (and taste!) what’s next! 🍰🥤🍎
🔧Business for Tradies Program 💼
As part of the Year 9 Business for Tradies Program, students visited Swinburne Institute (Croydon) to explore the TAFE campus and take part in a valuable job readiness presentation and resume workshop.
It was a fantastic opportunity for students to gain insights into future career pathways and build practical skills for the workforce. 👷♂️📄👏
