Principal's Report

ANZAC Day Service
On behalf of Spring Gully Primary School, we would like to sincerely thank Warrant Officer Class One Joel Anderson and Russell Bovaird, a former parent and member of the Greater City of Bendigo Brass Band, for being such a valued part of our ANZAC Day service last Friday.
We greatly appreciate the time and effort that members of our community contribute to the school. It is especially meaningful when parents share their knowledge, experiences, and talents for such an important occasion. Joel also spent time speaking with our Grade 6 students about his experiences and the ex-Army students who once attended our school. The students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to listen and learn.
We would also like to acknowledge our School Captains, Vice Captains, Indigenous Student Leaders, House Captains and STEM Leaders, who all did a wonderful job presenting the service. Speaking in front of the entire school takes confidence and courage, and you should all be very proud of your efforts.
Finally, thank you to all the parents, family members, and friends who attended and supported our assembly. Your presence is always greatly appreciated.
Mrs Rodda - ANZAC Day Coordinator
Staffing Changes
Mrs Effie Hamilton has recently commenced family leave. We wish Effie and Daniel all the very best for the safe arrival of their third child in the coming weeks. We welcome Mrs Bec Briggs as our Music teacher, who will be with us until the end of Term 3.
We have also recently appointed Mrs Christina Capuano to an intervention teaching role. Christina will be working with us four days per week.
Sonia is on long service leave for the first eight weeks of this term. In her absence, Rachael and Wendy have taken on additional responsibilities. Please be extra kind to them, as they will be incredibly busy during this time.
Ms Madie Floyd is preparing for a part-time return following a serious knee injury. Madie has missed her students and families and is very much looking forward to being back at SGPS. We thank Mrs Penny Gamble for the wonderful job she has done in Madie’s absence.
Mother’s Day Breakfast
Brett circulated some Mother’s Day Breakfast information via Compass yesterday. Please check that post, as we would love to have you with us for breakfast on Friday 8th May.
Mrs Leed has facilitated the creation of a Mother’s & Special Friend’s Day gift again this year. Families can place an order for gifts via the Canteen module in Compass, if they haven't already done so. In addition to this, families can also place an order for Mother’s & Special Friend’s Day breakfast, taking place in the Hub on Friday 8th May from 7.00am to 8.30am. Please see Brett's recent Compass message for further details.
The gift is a great opportunity for students to make something special for their loved ones, but it is also a valuable fundraiser for our school and the brekky is an awesome way to celebrate Mother’s Day. Thank you very much for your support.
Continued Industrial Action
As I type this message, a new Government Schools Agreement for school staff has not yet been reached between the State government and the AEU. As a result, the AEU will continue industrial action measures this term.
One that will impact parents is the half-day rolling stop work actions across the state. For the Bendigo area, this will occur on Wednesday, 13 May. Staff participating in the stop work action will commence work at 12:30pm on this day.
As with previous stop work action, we will not receive specific details until 48 hours prior. We will communicate arrangements to families as soon as possible once this information becomes available.
We understand that this may cause some disruption, and we appreciate your patience and support. Further information regarding supervision and arrangements for students will be provided once confirmed.

During the evening, we will share information about our curriculum, as well as the wellbeing and specialist programs that support our students.
