Grade 5/6 News

Term 2, Week 2, 2026
Woohoo! We are back and into the swing of learning and enjoying new and old friendships, setting the tone for what will be a successful and productive term.
Last term we enjoyed a colourful and creative Easter Hat Parade. Students showcased their imaginative designs, and it was clear that a lot of thought and effort went into some of the creations. Events like these are a great way to celebrate together and bring a sense of joy to our learning environment.
Upcoming Dates
Wednesday 13th May 'Parents Puberty Session'
There are no other specific events to our Grade 5/6 department, but please check page 2 of our newsletter for the whole school events.
General News
A few notes have gone home recently, so if you haven’t received these, please ask your child. The medical camp forms need to be returned along with the transition forms for the Grade 6 students.
This term, one of the highlights so far has been our Athletics Day. It was wonderful to see students demonstrating teamwork, perseverance, and school spirit throughout the event. Whether competing on the track or cheering from the sidelines, everyone contributed to a vibrant and supportive atmosphere. We are very proud of the effort and sportspersonship shown by all students.
Next Fortnight
Over the next two weeks, students will be engaging in a range of exciting new learning experiences across the curriculum. In Science, the students will start a new unit with their class that we are sure will encourage curiosity. Alongside this, students will begin their STEAM unit, where they will apply skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics to solve problems and think creatively.
In Mathematics, our focus will turn to a Fractions unit. Students will develop their understanding of equivalent fractions, operations with fractions, and how these concepts apply to real-world situations. In Literacy, we will be beginning our Information Report writing unit, where students will learn how to research, organise ideas, and present factual information clearly and effectively.
As we move further into the term, we look forward to continuing to build on this strong start.
Warm regards,
The Grade 5/6 Team
