Term 2, Week 2
Dear Grade 3/4 Families,
Welcome back to Term Two! The 3/4 team is really happy to see students back and ready for another great term of learning. We’re looking forward to a fun and busy term ahead, winter is also fast approaching!
In Literacy, students have been revising homophones and suffixes while exploring language features and common themes across texts. As part of our narrative focus, students have been busy writing their own environmental cautionary tales, inspired by Dr. Seuss. A key focus has also been on developing inference skills—looking closely at texts to understand what the author is showing, rather than telling.
Students have recently completed their unit on multiplication and division and are now beginning to explore shapes and fractions. Throughout this unit, they will develop their understanding through hands-on activities, flexible groupings, and real-world connections, allowing them to deepen their understanding. Our recent 3D shapes task was a 'hit' with many students enjoying the opportunity to showcase their understanding of shapes and their features, while constructing some brilliant examples.
Our new topic, The Blue Marble, has students exploring Earth and the features that make it unique. They are sharing their understanding of the natural world and reflecting on how we can care for our planet and contribute to a healthier environment for all.

Over the coming weeks, students will continue exploring sustainability through their reading and Topic unit, deepening their understanding of how they can care for the environment. They will begin writing persuasive texts for a clear purpose, using specific language features to engage and influence their audience. In Numeracy, students will continue developing their skills in fractions, shapes, and probability through a range of hands-on and problem-solving activities.
Our recent School Athletics Day was a great event that brought together students from the middle and senior years. Students took part with enthusiasm, showing determination and a willingness to challenge themselves across a range of events on the day.
It was lovely to see students supporting and encouraging each other, and celebrating their achievements together. A big thank you to Mr. Smith for organising such a smooth and successful day, and to everyone who came along to cheer on our students. The weather was definitely on our side!
