Calm down strategies are tools that help children manage strong emotions like frustration, anger, or anxiety. For parents/carers, encouraging these strategies, such as deep breathing, taking a break, using calming words, or engaging in quiet activities, can support children to regulate their feelings in a healthy way. By encouraging and modeling these techniques at home, parents/carers can help their children build emotional resilience, improve behaviour, and develop skills they will use throughout their lives. 

 

In our forthcoming newsletters, you will find a range of calm down strategies, and when supporting your children at home, you might like to use a calm down strategy to help them feel more settled and in control during challenging moments.

 

This week's calm down strategy is focused on deep breathing.

This involves encouraging your child to take slow, steady breaths in through their nose and out through their mouth, helping to relax their body and mind.
