Year 1 & 2
Around our level
Our students have had a fantastic start to Term 2 and have been busily preparing for Mother’s Day next week.

In Literacy, we have continued our UFLI Phonics sessions. We have also embarked on a Poetry unit and have so far written acrostic, simile, and shape poems. We can’t wait for you to read our poetry books when we finish. We have continued our guided reading sessions, and also read two picture story books, 'Billy Can' which was about the ANZACs in WW1, and 'Pog'. We even created ANZAC wreaths and made Pog a house.

In Maths, students have been learning about patterns and algebra. They have learnt about one step, two step, and three step patterns with shapes. Students have also learnt to identify ‘a half’ in a variety of ways for Fractions lessons.

In Geography, our students have started looking at the world map. They discussed their ideas about the world and our Earth, watched a short video, and shared their understanding through a class discussion.
Over the past two weeks in Wellbeing, students have been developing their understanding of positive relationships and emotional awareness. We explored the idea of being a ‘Friendship Magnet’ through discussing how small acts of kindness, such as including others, sharing, and using friendly language, can help build stronger friendships.

Students also looked into the Zones of Regulation, learning to identify different emotions and grouping them into four coloured zones. They discussed how their feelings can change throughout the day and explored simple strategies to help them manage their emotions and return to the green zone, which is being ready to learn!

Students are nominated by their teachers to receive a certificate of acknowledgment. The below students' certificates will be presented at our next assembly.
