Da Vinci Decathlons

Term 2 Week 1

Year 5-6

On Wednesday, 30 April, our Year 5 and Year 6 teams headed to The Riverina Anglican College to take part in the Da Vinci Decathlon.

Throughout the day, they needed to work as a team to complete papers across 10 different areas, including Engineering, Creative Producers, Ideation, Mathematics, English, Science, Art and Poetry, Legacy and Cartography.

Both teams were very successful on the day, receiving awards across a variety of disciplines. The Year 6 team was also awarded second place overall! Both teams represented the College beautifully and showed amazing teamwork skills.

On Thursday, students from Year 8 had the chance to take part in the Da Vinci Decathlon. The day was split into three main blocks. In the first session, they tackled Science, Engineering, Ideation, and Creative Producers. After that, they had a recess break before jumping back into it with Mathematics, English, Code Breaking, and Cartography.

At that point, the team was feeling a bit unsure - they'd run out of time to finish a few of the tasks and thought we might not be doing too well overall. After lunch, they wrapped up the last two subjects: Legacy and Art & Poetry.

While the teachers were marking the final papers, the students played a few rounds of trivia to pass the time, things like naming Disney characters and sports movies.

Finally, it was time for the awards. As they announced the winners for each subject, the team weren’t expecting much as they’d only taken out first place in two categories. But in the end, they came out on top! Even so, they all felt it was a pretty close call, and they’re excited and getting prepared for States at Knox Grammar!

Year 9/10 also competed in the Da Vinci Decathlon on Friday, doing pretty well across the boards, achieving a few third and second places in the categories. In the end, earning third place overall!

Congratulations to all of the students! We look forward to seeing how the Year 8 team do in Sydney in two weeks!
