Pathways Counsellor

Our Pathways program is off to a flying start this year!

At Brunswick, pathways education egins in Year 7.

We are focused on helping our young people see the connection between what they are learning now and the lives they hope to build in the future. Building this picture supports them in making thoughtful subject choices as they move through high school, opens their eyes to a wide range of pathways, and arms them with the knowledge and confidence they need to make informed decisions. Most importantly, it reassures students that there are many possible futures available to them, helping them move beyond school with clarity, purpose and optimism.

Students from all year levels are always welcome to book in to chat with me - early, regular conversations mean they will be more prepared as they go forward -  choosing subjects, work experience or pathways beyond school.

Year 10 Work Experience

Many Year 10 students have already met with me to explore a range of exciting work experience opportunities, showing great initiative by proactively contacting potential placement providers.

The opportunity to complete work experience gives students valuable insight into the world of work, helping them to explore career pathways, build confidence, and develop real-world skills that can’t be learned in the classroom alone.  it can turn curiosity into clarity, and ambition into action!

Please note that the Department of Education has moved the work experience form to an online platform – it is now generated once a student tells me they have a placement.

A reminder that all information on work experience, casual jobs help and volunteering can be found in the Year 10, 11 and 12 Teams Pathways channels.  Information regarding the Work Experience Program available via the Compass Favourites, or by clicking this button.

Year 12 - Planning ahead

Year 12 students have also been meeting regularly to discuss university, TAFE, workforce and other post-school options. It is important to note that research for courses should start now, and preparations for applying for equity schemes (SEAS) & scholarships can happen any time. Being prepared, applying early and not waiting until deadlines is a great way to approach this process.

Important Dates

Important updates such as the 2026 ATAR guide, scholarships opportunities and info sessions, are posted in the Year 12 Pathways channel for students to access.

Students are encouraged to monitor Teams notifications regularly to be sure that they are well prepared .

 Workshops and Information Sessions

Also in the Year 12 Pathways channel, students have the opportunity to vote for the lunchtime workshops they would most like to see this year.  For example,  you might want to attend one or several of the following information sessions or workshops

  • How to write a Resume
  • Job Applications and Job Interviews
  • University and TAFE Applications
  • Open Q&A session - where students can ask anything about pathways, jobs, university, TAFE, apprenticeships etc
  • Understanding University Administration - enrolment processes, fees, HECS, accepting offers, tertiary study information
  • Employment Information - including Your Rights at Work, superannuation and tax information.
