Recently, the BSC Connection, Culture & Diversity Club celebrated Lunar New Year with a fun lunchtime event, inviting all  students to get together in a spirit of culture and community. Students from all different backgrounds joined the party, and it was great to see so many turn out to share our customs with us.

Lunar New Year is an important time for many of us from Chinese, Vietnamese and other Asian backgrounds. The occasion symbolises renewal, family and hope. It also occasion a fresh beginning — an opportunity to reflect on the challenges of the past year while looking ahead to new opportunities, particularly in our learning and personal growth.

Traditions such as family gatherings, shared meals, red envelopes (红包), and honouring our ancestors remind us of the values of gratitude, respect and perseverance. Even while we balance the demands of Year 12, celebrating Lunar New Year helps us stay connected to our culture and identity. Beginning the year with optimism and reflection provides motivation too.

Our College celebration featured delicious food, including dumplings, spring rolls and a variety of Asian snacks. There was also a Lunar New Year quiz, which gave students the opportunity to test their knowledge of Asian cultures in a fun way.

Thank you to all the teachers and students who participated, and to everyone who contributed their time and effort to make the celebration such a success.

It was fabulous to be part of this year’s Lunar New Year celebrations — seeing students debate quiz answers, enjoy the food, and share laughs with their friends made the moment very special.
