Year Five/Six News 

It has been a busy and engaging time in Year 5/6, with students continuing to build their skills across English, Humanities and Mathematics through a range of meaningful learning experiences.

Reading

In Reading, students have been exploring the text How to Survive Being a Prime Minister in Grade Five, using the text to develop comprehension, vocabulary, fluency and critical thinking skills. Students have been encouraged to make connections with the characters and events and identifying the author’s purpose.

Our novel study groups have also provided opportunities for students to practise responding to texts in a structured way. Students are learning to support their ideas with evidence from the novel and are developing confidence in explaining their thinking in greater detail.

Writing

In Writing, students are learning how to select relevant information, organise it chronologically and write engaging factual texts that highlight significant events, achievements and contributions of our political leaders.

Mathematics – Money & Lifestyle Planning

In Mathematics, students have been applying their mathematical skills to real-life financial situations. Through our Money and Lifestyle Planning learning, students are exploring budgeting, income, expenses, saving and making responsible financial decisions.

Students are beginning to consider how different choices can affect a person's lifestyle and financial wellbeing. This practical context is helping them develop important skills in working with money, interpreting information, calculating costs and making informed decisions.

It has been wonderful to see students engaging with these topics and making connections between their classroom learning and the world around them.

Reminders

Due to the weather beginning to warm up, hats are now required to be worn, from the 1st September.

Monday the 7th September we have a whole school incursion with Tony Bones – Books to Life. Please check, via Sentral that you have given permission for your child to participate.
