Head Lice Reminder

Head lice are a common occurrence in primary schools and can affect anyone. Parents are encouraged to regularly check their child's hair and commence treatment promptly if live lice are found.

In accordance with Victorian Department of Education requirements, students with live head lice must be excluded from school until the day after treatment has commenced. Please note that the presence of eggs (nits) alone does not require exclusion from school.

We appreciate families working with us to minimise the spread of head lice and support the health and wellbeing of all students.

Head Knock vs Head Bump

As children grow, they are naturally curious and adventurous, and as a result, head knocks and bumps can sometimes occur. In line with Department of Education guidelines, we are making some changes to the way we communicate with families regarding these incidents.

To assess the severity of any head injury, our First Aid team uses the Concussion Recognition Tool 6 (CRT6) (please see the attached information sheet for further details).

Head Knock (Concussion May Be Suspected)A head knock is an injury where a concussion may be suspected following assessment. In these circumstances, parents/carers will be contacted by phone and asked to collect their child and seek medical advice.

Head Bump (Concussion Not Suspected)A head bump is an injury where a concussion is not suspected following assessment. In these cases, parents/carers will receive a notification via the Sentral Portal outlining the details of the incident. Families will be asked to continue monitoring their child for any signs or symptoms of concussion that may develop after leaving school and to seek medical advice if concerns arise.
