Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people. May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

Book Week Celebrations

We have had so much positive feedback from our families on the celebrations the school and kindergarten engaged in last week. Lots of fun was had across the day with our well-attended and ever-popular parade to start the day - a big thank you to our families for their support and effort in the costume department and audience participation.

We were also inundated at the end of the day with families in classrooms, sharing in the learning and interactions that we are so proud of and invested at our school.

I would like to acknowledge the planning and organisation that Claire Fletcher led with her Book Week Committee to make the entire day a huge success.

Gymnastics

Our Gymnastics Program has concluded for 2026. An incredible effort from Katherine and Mrs Simpson, Ronny and a passionate and supportive team of teachers supporting the weekly set-up and pack-up of all of our quality equipment. The entire program was an incredible success, supported so professionally and capably by Gymnastics Victoria.

Family Maths Night

Family Maths Night was once again strongly supported by our students and families. This night allowed for families and students to enjoy time together and engage with staff exploring problem-solving, challenges and lots of fun along the way. A big thank you to Mr Bartok and his team of tireless teachers for planning, organising and bringing this special event to life for our school community to enjoy.

Student Led Conferences & Learning Statements

Please understand that due to recent Industrial Action, Learning Statements will not be provided this term, however, we are looking forward to hosting Student Led Conferences on the last Wednesday of term, Wednesday September 16. Student Learning Portfolios will be shared at this time and learning goals and achievements will be discussed.

As always, if you require some time to discuss a matter with your child's classroom teacher that requires more time than the allocated 10-minutes, or you would prefer to discuss without your child present, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher to arrange a separate time.

ICAN Expo

We have a group of students heading off to Melbourne on Friday to represent our school at the ICAN Expo, held at the Melbourne Exhibition & Convention Centre. We are delighted, and very proud, to have Arie Trengove and Remi Glasson who are guest speakers at the Expo - incredible leaders representing our school and community. Congratulations, Remi and Arie - we are so very proud of you both!

Tony Bones

Tony Bones Appleby has had 24-years experience and now tours the country, bringing books to life. Students are used throughout the show to both participate in the audience (responding, singing or dancing along, creating scenes in the audience) & also join in on stage to operate puppets, dress in costume to become characters, create sets & props during the show, be part of improvised scenes or be contestants in a game show. Tony will be bringing one of the short-listed picture books to life for us on stage - Being Indy. Tony will join us next Monday - we are very excitied!

School Council Meeting - Open to the Community

We are hosting our School Council Meeting that is Open to the Community next Monday evening, September 7. Parents are welcome to join us to meet our School Councillors and be present as our recent NAPLAN results are proudly shared, our noted progress across the Victorian Teaching & Learning Model, Attitudes to School data, as well as our Annual Report. This forum provides a valuable opportunity to come along and hear how your school is progessing and supporting your children, backed by data sets and reports endorsed by the Department of Education and our School Councillors. You are very welcome to join us next Monday September 7 at school.

Happy Fathers Day!

We wish all of the significant men in our lives a special day of love, recognition and special time with loved ones on Sunday - thank you for all that you do!

With best wishes for the rest of the week,

Kylie Nissen.
