SCIENCE

ECOLINC EXCURSION

On Wednesday the 12th of August, a group of our high-achieving students visited the EcoLinc Science Centre in Bacchus Marsh to complete a stop-motion animation workshop. Our awesome students learnt about an endangered species and then developed a stop motion video to inform people on how we could help that species.

Our groups needed to learn about the threats to the leatherback turtles, shy albertross and Glenelg spiny freshwater crayfish species.

Our students developed some amazing animations and shared them with students from other schools.

SECRETS OF EROMANGA WEBINAR

Some of our super science-y artists in Grade 3 and 4 had the opportunity to learn from an Australian paleontologist about fossils found in ancient Australian in-land seas on Wednesday the 5th of August. A group of our high-ability students asked many excellent questions about fossils and then developed their artistic skills by learning how to draw a scientific diagram of a trilobite fossil. Our students were so amazing at this that we have decided to start our very own Paleo-Artist Club, where we will get together once a term to draw scientific digrams and pictures of fossils and other specimens.

Media Arts is a busy time with students designing and creating short storylines to make into stop-motion videos.

Physical Education - Miss Atherton

In P.E this fortnight Grades Prep to 4  finished up their jump rope unit with some cooperative small groups and whole class, learning how to work together and turn the jump rope for their groups. Every single student finished the unit with a new personal best which they should be so proud of!

Grade Prep/1’s have begun a unit in striking balls using our hands, which they have thoroughly enjoyed so far. We are learning to track a ball with our eyes, move towards the ball with our body, and strike it with our hands to a target.

Grade 1/2 ‘s have begun a unit in striking as well, however beginning to learn about how we can do this to learn some key volleyball skills like spiking, digging and setting. Even though these skills are challenging, every single student has given it a really good go, persisting and having fun with their partners while they’re at it.

Grade 3/4’s have begun their volleyball unit, learning how to spike dig and set to a partner. We are looking forward to building up our skills to play mini games later on in the term.

Grade 5/6’s have continued their SEPEP volleyball unit,  successfully improving all of their volleyball skills each week. We have begun following a fixture with our teams versing a different team each week, with everybody having a chance to perform a role such as captain or scorer.
