Learning Community 3

The sun is returning!

At the end of the month we will be back to wearing hats. Please remind your child to find their hat ready for this change so they don't get caught out having to stay in undercover areas! A simple navy blue hat. If you are need financial support with uniform, please contact the office. 

English

This semester, we are refocusing on the tools of writing and are reviewing all the components of a written piece that students need to master in order to have cohesive and dynamic writing. Last week we review the writing of procedural text and created text on our own procedures based on a topic of interest. Ask your child what they wrote about!

This week, students have been practicing the use of persuasive devices and language. They have learnt about the use of 'lists of three', 'emotive language', 'rhetorical questions', 'call to action' among others. We have looked at advertisements, jingles, and posters as ways to persuade others and have made our own texts for each of theses. We will be continuing this sequence next week and learning more ways to persuade.

Mathematics

We have now finished off our unit on fractions and started a new unit of 'order of operations'. It has been great to see the students fully engaged in this maths and see them learning how to approach questions that have multiple reasonable answers, but only one correct answer. Students have learnt that brackets indicate where to start with such questions, and depending on where the brackets are, the answer can change!

Humanities - History

We have continued to learn about l the 6 colonies and some of the circumstances the values and laws that brought Australia together to begin to form its constitution and government. We have looked at the Magna carta, and its impact on Western countries and how it formed the basis for Australia's constitution, and 'fair go' mentality, along side Australia's convict history.  

Auslan

This week was our final week of practise to interpret and sign a short story. Next week we will visit Miss Maxine and Mrs McAsey and their classes to share our hard work. 

Technology

Students have continued to look at the design process and what ergonomic designs is about and considered end user needs. We have now investigated different materials and looked at processes for how to determine if a product is meeting the needs to the users in an ergonomic way. 

Student in Charge

This semester, all students will be given an opportunity to teach their peers something they are skilled in or have a strong understanding of. When it is your child's turn, they may request to bring certain items/tools/equipment to school. We appreciate the support from our families to allow exceptional mini lessons on exciting tops, such as music, craft, and sport.
