We have had a couple of weeks of fun with learning!

We learnt about 3D shapes and their features, and had a go at making some with match sticks and blu tack. It made it easy to count the vertices and edges! This week we have moved on to composite shapes and symmetry. We used mathomats to draw a creation with a certain amount of shapes. We labelled the shapes too. 

When experimenting with symmetry, we made mandalas. The patterns inside have rotational symmetry! 

In Reading, we have continued hearing about the adventures of Despereaux, Roscuro and now Miggery Sow. 

We have been connecting themes to events in the text, and putting ourselves in the character's shoes to show our understanding of the character and what they're going through. 

In Writing we finished up our Diary writing unit by writing as though we were a character from The Tales of Despereaux. Our students were able to use some fantastic exaggerated language and really show the thoughts and feelings of Antoinette, Despereaux, the King, and the Princess Pea. 

We've been talking about sustainable designs in Design and Technology, and how we can repurpose single use items. Again, our students came up with some creative ways to reuse an odd sock, a glass jar, a tin can and even a cereal box. 

Last week we tried out hand at weaving to make baskets, similar to the techniques our First Nations people used to weave baskets.
