Book Week 2025
Theme: Book an Adventure
Wow! Book Week at Wantirna College this year was amazing. From literary treasure hunts to flash mobs, the school was buzzing. A massive shoutout to all our incredible staff and students— your energy and support made this week unforgettable! Read on for some of the highlights from the Week:
Monday Recess – Shadow Judges Finale
The Library came alive as our Shadow Judge crew gathered to watch the CBCA Book of the Year announcements. Some choices sparked conversation, while others were met with quiet nods of approval, but one thing we all agreed on? We’re absolutely doing this again next year!
Thanks to Madison White, Mila Nacevska, Tharun Rajkumar, Aila Mohammad , Hari Thirugnanasambanthan, and Elizabeth Robertson for their participation this year.
Monday Lunchtime – Silent Reading Flash Mob
In a surprise twist, a silent reading flash mob popped up outside the Orchard! For 10 magical minutes, staff gathered to read together, creating a ripple of curiosity and setting the tone for the week ahead.
Tuesday & Wednesday – Mystery Reader
Back by popular demand, Mystery Reader turned the school into a literary scavenger hunt! Principal, ES, and teaching staff from across the curriculum grabbed their favourite books and scattered across the grounds. Students raced to find them, collect tickets, and dash to the Library for instant prizes. The excitement was contagious, and everybody involved reported having a great time!
Friday – Book Swap & Celebration Party
The Library transformed into party central for our exclusive Book Week finale! Students who donated a book in advance were invited to swap and discover new reads. With 144 guests—including Library Leaders, Book Club members, Shadow Judges, and Top Readers—the celebration was a heartwarming tribute to our community of readers. There was music, dancing, delicious treats, and games galore!

Amie Kaufman Author Workshop
Wednesday 10 September
Highly accomplished Australian author, Amie Kaufman, will be returning to Wantirna College to run another exciting author workshop. Students will hear about the creative process directly from a published author and gain an insight into how ideas are developed, characters are created, and plots are structured. This demystifies the writing process and encourages students to express their own creativity through writing. Students who would like to attend this event should speak with their English teacher ASAP to register their interest.
