Year 8 Girls Basketball

Sport

On Monday 4 August, a group of enthusiastic and hard-working Year 8 Girls represented Wantirna College at the Interschool Basketball Competition at Dandenong Stadium. Our two teams spent the day playing their best basketball and competing against the other schools in our area. Throughout the day we had many successes.

The A Team had a fantastic run throughout the day, remaining undefeated in all their matches leading up to the final.

We won against Upwey, Boronia, Rowville West and Heritage College, and unfortunately lost to Rowville East in the final game. It was a great day overall and everyone did really well. ~ Alexia Veljovic

We went in with positive mindsets and determination. We all played a good game but ended up losing against Rowville. Rowville played well and are now off to the next round. The girls A team ended up coming second after playing their best. Overall, everyone had lots of fun and played really well. ~ Ash Laming and Gracie Lawler

Meanwhile, the B Team showed great resilience and growth across their matches. They encountered some tough opponents early in the day but didn’t let that dampen their determination.

The B team also had lots of good wins and ended up placing 5th. We all had a really fun time and enjoyed ourselves. Overall It was a great day for all of the girls! ~ Ivy Bromstring

While our teams played with strong competitive spirit, they also demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and kindness. In matches where opponents were short on players or still developing their skills, our Wantirna students showed empathy and encouragement, cheering on and supporting teams they had never met, truly embodying our school values.

Thank you to the Year 8 girls that attended for a wonderful day out and a special thanks must go to our student coaches, Winnie and Chloe for their leadership and support on the day.
