Congratulations to the cast and crew of the 2025 production on another whirlwind two weeks of amazing performances!
This week, Performing Arts Captain, Will Spiroch chatted with Ms Robinson about her experience watching the show.
WS: Thanks for taking the time to talk to me about this year’s production, I wanted to ask you about your past production/musicals you have watched, whether it has been a Wantirna College, other school or professional Production. What productions do you prefer and what have you seen?
Ms R: I’ve really enjoyed watching the past few Wantirna College productions – each one has been unique and such a great showcase of student talent and creativity. There’s something really special about seeing students I know and teach bring characters to life on stage.
Outside of school, I also enjoy going to professional productions. Some of my favourites that I’ve seen include Grease, Fame, We Will Rock You, and most recently Beetlejuice. Each one had its own energy and style – from the classic feel-good songs of Grease to the incredible staging and humour of Beetlejuice.
While professional shows are always spectacular, I have to say I love school productions just as much, if not more, because there’s a personal connection. Watching students grow in confidence, perform with passion, and collaborate to create something so professional is really inspiring.
WS: You went to see Chicago on opening night, what were your opinions on it? What did you like most about the show?
Ms R: I thought this was a professional-level production, with an outstanding tech crew managing the lighting and staging, which transitioned seamlessly throughout the show. The cast was phenomenal. Every performer brought something unique to their role, with such care taken in characterisation, vocal delivery, and choreography. The energy and commitment from the whole ensemble made the performance captivating from start to finish.
What I especially enjoyed was seeing students from my own year level, and those I currently teach and some I have taught previously – performing at such a high standard. Watching them showcase their talents and step into the spotlight with such confidence was a real highlight for me. It was inspiring to see how their hard work and dedication came together to create such a memorable performance.
WS: Would you recommend others to come and see the show?
Ms R: Overall, Chicago was an incredible production that showcased the creativity, teamwork, and talent of both the students and staff involved. It’s something the whole school community can be very proud of and would recommend that you go and see these to support your friends and the College community.
