Social Media Age Restrictions

Important Update: New Social Media Age Rules from 10 December

From 10 December 2025, Australia is introducing new laws that prevent children under 16 years old from having accounts on many major social media platforms.

These changes aim to protect young people’s health and wellbeing by limiting their access to features that encourage too much screen time or expose them to risky content.

Platforms affected include Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, Threads, and others.

If you’d like more detailed information, below you’ll find a letter from Inform and Empower that explains the new restrictions and how families can prepare.
