What do our students think of our Pakenham Principal’s Powerboat 500 Reading Challenge?

The following are the responses of some of our students when asked how the Reading Challenge has affected their reading habits and attitudes to reading:

"The Challenge has encouraged me to read more in class and given me more opportunities to explore books in genres than I don’t usually read. I have been reading Horror and Mystery, rather than just Fantasy. It has also allowed me to delve into new books I don’t have at home."

"Due to the PPPC 500, I have been able to read at least 45 minutes a week. The Challenge has helped my brain become more ready for learning after reading 15 minutes at the start of the lesson."

Indie 7I

"I really enjoy reading in class. It has been great reading different books such as Good Girls’ Guide to Murder and Raised by Wolves."

Hailey 7I

"I have read every English session, which is way more than I used to read. I have only got four pages left of the book, The Lost Library , which I have enjoyed and has become one of my favourite books, thanks to the PPPC 500."

Peyton 7I

"I’m reading more books online and offline and my sister has started reading with me every night."

Ruby 7I

"I have liked getting time to read during class. I gives me time to read since I’m always busy at home. I have enjoyed reading The Maze Runner and other books."

Ruby 7I

"I am a very competitive person due to the sports I play, and I wanted to compete and now I have 1080 minutes of reading!   PS: I thought I was going to ride on the boat as a prize!"

Marshall 8F

"I am reading more than usual. I try to read 180 minutes per day."

Arib 7I

"I read 15 minutes a day, but before, I only read occasionally."

Ruby 7I

"I am reading more because of the PPPC500. I’ve enjoyed reading PS: I Still Love You."

Olivia 7I

"The PPPC 500 Challenge really helped me understand the power of reading. It encouraged me to go out of my comfort zone and try different options. Some books I would never have touched before became my new favourites. It’s been a great challenge."
