Grade 3/4 News

It’s been a great start to the year in LC3 and students are well underway settling into their classes, routines and learning programs!

Each school year starts off with Silverton’s

Start Up Program, where students take the time to get to know their new classmates and teachers, share their interests and discuss thoughts on how to achieve their learning, and set up new norms and routines in the Learning Centre.

Each and every student created their own ‘All About Me’ poster which shares their interests, favourite food, movie, book, what they like to play, what they’d like to learn about and where they’d like to visit. These are currently making a colourful and engaging display throughout the Learning Centre and in keeping with LC3’s theme for 2026, movies.

Respect is the school value we will be focusing on throughout the year, but as a school we have also set one of our other values, ‘Gratitude’ as Term 1 focus. Everyone has reflected on something they are grateful for and this has in turn become a fantastic and colourful display on the board at the entrance to the learning centre.

The Integrated Program has kicked off with students working on a Travel Passport which features immersions in animals, food, population, currency, climate, weather and the terrain of various countries. The skills learnt will support students in their future Travel Booth project which will commence in Term 2.

Last week saw grade 3 participate in a NAPLAN practice which went well for all involved. This sets up a positive first experience for students as grade 3 will be there first, but not last encounter with NAPLAN throughout their education. The NAPLAN testing window will commence for grade 3 from Wednesday the 11th of March – Monday the 23rd of March.

In other news, a fan favourite whole learning centre reward system has made a return this year, the 100’s chart. At any time throughout the week students are chosen to add their name when meeting our school wide positive behaviours. This puts them in the draw where if they name comes up they receive a reward of their choosing.
