Celebrate National Science Week at Glen Eira College!
National Science Week will be celebrated across Australia from 15–23 August, providing an opportunity to recognise the important role that science plays in our everyday lives. This year's theme, "Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All," celebrates curiosity, discovery and the growth of scientific understanding.
To mark the occasion, the Science Learning Area has planned a range of activities for students to enjoy throughout the week.
The Grand Science Mystery
Something unusual has happened at Glen Eira College... and the evidence is only just beginning to emerge.
Throughout Science Week, a new clue will be released each day, gradually revealing the events surrounding a mysterious scientific incident. Participants will need to think like scientists—making careful observations, analysing the evidence and drawing logical conclusions—to solve the case.
Every clue reveals part of the story... but only the most observant investigators will uncover the truth.
SCINEMA Lunchtime Screenings
Students are invited to join us for two special SCINEMA lunchtime screenings celebrating the wonder of science through film. A selection of engaging short science films will be shown during Science Week, with screening times to be announced closer to the event.
National Science Week Brain Break Quiz
Students can also test their scientific knowledge by taking part in the National Science Week Brain Break Quiz. Featuring a range of fun and interactive STEM questions, the quiz is a fantastic opportunity to challenge yourself while celebrating National Science Week.
Science Talent Search
Congratulations to the Glen Eira College students who have submitted entries in this year's Science Talent Search, conducted by the Science Teachers' Association of Victoria. Entries have now closed, and judging will take place throughout August. We wish all of our students every success and look forward to sharing their achievements in a future newsletter.
Whether you're solving a mystery, testing your STEM knowledge, enjoying a SCINEMA screening or supporting our Science Talent Search entrants, we encourage all students to get involved in the many activities on offer during National Science Week.
