Student Wellbeing Update
As we reflect on a busy and successful end to Term 2 and the beginning of Term 3, the Wellbeing Team would like to thank our students, staff and families for their ongoing support of the many wellbeing initiatives across our school.
At Glen Eira College, our wellbeing programs are carefully selected using student voice and school data, including the Attitudes to School Survey (ATOSS), to ensure they respond to the needs of our students and support positive wellbeing, engagement and belonging.
This term, students across all year levels have participated in a range of evidence-informed wellbeing programs.
Our Year 7 and 8 students attended Brainstorm Productions' Verbal Combat, an engaging live performance exploring respectful relationships, cyberbullying, social media, online influences, artificial intelligence and mental health. The performance encouraged students to think critically about the choices they make both online and offline and reinforced the importance of empathy, respect and responsible decision-making.
Our Year 9 students completed the Teen Mental Health First Aid program, equipping them with practical skills to recognise the signs of common mental health concerns in young people and confidently support a friend using an evidence-based action plan until appropriate professional help is available.
Students in Years 10 and 11 participated in workshops delivered by Tomorrow Man and Tomorrow Woman. These sessions encouraged students to reflect on the impact of peer pressure, stereotypes, respectful relationships and communication, while developing the confidence to challenge unhealthy behaviours and support one another.
These opportunities complement the ongoing work of our Student Wellbeing Team and reinforce our commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and connected school community.
Looking ahead, the Wellbeing Team is excited to be involved in several important community initiatives. During Homelessness Week, a group of students will have the opportunity to attend a presentation and tour hosted by the Salvation Army Young Experienced Leaders, where young people with lived experience of homelessness will share their stories and insights. This promises to be a powerful learning experience that promotes empathy, understanding and social awareness.
Our team will also be presenting at the Caulfield Community Health Schools Community of Practice, showcasing our Thrive Program alongside presentations on emerging issues affecting young people, including the influence of the manosphere. Opportunities to share our work, learn from colleagues and strengthen partnerships across the education and community sectors are invaluable as we continue to enhance wellbeing supports for our students.
Finally, we would like to acknowledge the incredible work and dedication of our Student Wellbeing Team. A special thank you to Loveena, El, Em, Teagan and Roz for the care, compassion and professionalism they bring to supporting our students and families every day. Their commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive and connected school culture is deeply appreciated.
Together, we continue to support every student to Learn, Grow and Connect.
