Unit 1 Legal Studies Excursion
On 24th June, students from the Year 11 Legal Studies class visited the Victorian Magistrates’ Court and Parliament House, in order to better our understanding of Victoria’s legal and political system.
Our excursion began at the Victorian Magistrates’ Court, where we engaged with the Magistrate Vincenzo Caltabiano, who explained his responsibilities within Victoria’s legal system by showcasing the court's functions. He also answered many of our questions related to Victoria’s legal system, bettering our understanding.
After the question and answer session, we were able to explore real cases heard by the Magistrates' Court.
Following a lunch break, our class proceeded to the Victorian Parliament, where we were given a tour of both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council. David Southwick, Caulfield’s local Member of Parliament, provided an overview of the Victorian Parliament, outlining its role in representing the public and formulating legislation.
The goal of the trip was to display the processes involved in creating clear, understandable, acceptable, known, enforceable, and stable laws, especially how it’s enforced through the courts. The excursion allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of Victoria’s legal systems.

2026 Australian Geography Competition – Year 9 Students
Geography students from Glen Eira College tested their geographical skills and knowledge against students from all around Australia in the 2026 Australian Geography competition.
Over 47,000 students from 600 schools across Australia entered the Australian Geography Competition, so the results give us an external benchmark as to how our students are going in certain aspects of Geography.
Rachel Honey, the Competition’s national co-ordinator, said ‘The competition aims to encourage student interest in Geography and to reward student excellence. Geography is such an important subject because it develops in students a holistic understanding of the world around them, and their place in it.'
We have a number of student geographers at our school who performed to a very high level in the Competition this year.
